The Manitoba Mtis Federation(MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Mtisalso known as the Manitoba Mtis. The Red River Mtis are a distinct IndigenousNation and People and Canadas Negotiating Partners in Confederation and theFounders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill onefulltime Heritage Resource Specialist position within our Energy Infrastructureand Resource Management Department located at 200 Main Street in WinnipegMB. The Heritage Resource Specialistwill work to assist and support the Portfolio Lead with building andmaintaining relationships and collaborating with the team to achieve projectsuccess on a variety of energy and infrastructure related matters tostrategically plan develop and manage the MMFs Energy and Infrastructureportfolio.
Job Duties/Competencies:
Develop and implement heritage managementstrategies for archaeological sites of significance to the Red River Mtis;
Collaborate with Portfolio Leads in theplanning implementation and evaluation of heritage monitoring programs;
Prepare detailed reports review heritageimpact assessments and develop site management plans;
Collect organize and analyze informationcollected and prepare a final report on findings;
Liaise with regulatory bodies culturalheritage organizations and government agencies to ensure compliance withheritage laws and policies;
Research and draft applications for projectrelated funding opportunities;
Manage cultural heritage data including GISmapping archival research and digital documentation;
Attend coordinate and facilitate communityworkshops and meetings.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Anthropology ArchaeologyHeritage Management or a related field;
Minimum of two years of field experience inhistorical archaeology preferably in Red River Mtis fur trade orcolonialperiod contexts;
Familiarity with GIS remote sensing anddigital heritage management;
Strong knowledge of heritage managementprinciples and relevant Canadian legislation;
Project management experience including grantwriting and budgeting;
Excellent communication interpersonalorganizational and analytical skills;
Experience working for a notforprofitorganization and Indigenous community is an asset;
Knowledge of Red River Mtis culture and MMFprograms and services is a definite asset; and
Ability to travel valid Manitoba Driverslicense with access to a reliable vehicle.
