POSITION SUMMARY
LearningWorks Afterschool serves academically lowperforming students in grades PreK through 5th in 11 elementary schools in Southern Maine. We are currently filling positions in Portland. Students participate in handson engineering design challenges that embed literacy math and social emotional learning to build key skills for school success: academic confidence taking initiative problemsolving communication and perseverance. Eligible students are identified collaboratively by LearningWorks Afterschool Directors Site Coordinators and school staff. LearningWorks Afterschool is funded primarily through 21st Century Community Learning Center grants and is offered in partnership with local school districts.
The Teaching Site Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing a 4days/week program (Monday Tuesdays Thursday and Friday) focused on Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum and enrichment activities (health/wellness cultural socialemotional learning). The Teaching Site Coordinator is also responsible for managing daily family/caregiver and student communication activities and schedules and supervising a small site team consisting of teachers and volunteers. This parttime position is a coordinating and teaching role.
Outside of live program time additional time is allotted to attend meetings and participate in planning and professional development. This is a parttime fixed term schoolyear position. THIS ROLE IS IN PERSON ONLY.
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with the LWAS Directors and school administrators/staff in the enrollment and registration process
- Act as a point of contact for parents guardians and school staff.
- Supervise program staff and provide guidance as needed.
- Manage daily implementation and instruction of an inperson STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities with guidance from LW Site Directors
- Communicate with parents volunteers and school administrators/staff regarding student enrollment schedules participation behavior progress and to promote program visibility and family events
- Ensure students and staff are in a physically and emotionally safe structured organized learning environment
- Build positive relationships with students and actively support model encourage and inspire them in healthy lifestyle choices (personal social and academic). Assist with student behavior challenges as needed
- Utilize best practices to maintain consistent student attendance and meet grant enrollment and attendance targets
- Keep accurate and timely records of: attendance meal counts center activities student records team meetings and other database activities as requested by the Director
- Assist the LWAS Directors in developing enrichment activities schedules and curriculum.
- Supervise a team consisting of Teachers Teaching Assistants and volunteers
- Lead weekly team meetings to communicate program delivery needs reflection and goals for improvement
- Be available for contacts from students families and team members by phone and email while the program is in session and regularly monitor a LearningWorks email account and voicemail and communicate in a timely manner
- Assist the LWAS Directors in scheduling and coordinating family and public events presentations partner activities and special guests
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times in accordance with program expectations online safety and learning guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- State of Maine Teaching Certification
- Demonstrated leadership experience/capacity in an education setting
- BA or BS degree in Education or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE SKILLS
- 13 years teaching experience with elementaryaged youth
- Minimum 1 year supervisory and/or leadership experience in an education setting
- Work with diverse communities and lowperforming populations is preferred. For certain sites experience working with English Language Learners is a plus
- Very strong communication interpersonal organizational and time management skills
- Significant experience with and demonstrated ability to use various technology including but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook Slack Google Drive Suite Zoom Slack Google Sites See Saw internet use and safety Android platform
- Some experience with remote/virtual/blended academic program planning and/or delivery is preferred
- Flexibility thoughtfulness and the ability to creatively problem solve
- Growth mindset and a willingness to learn and apply innovative learning platforms and approaches
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team setting
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Routinely required to stand and walk
- Requires close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus quickly
- Ability to work in a school or communitybased setting with active student participation.
- Frequent standing walking and engaging with students.
- Occasional lifting of up to 1535 pounds.
- Flexible scheduling including late afternoon and early evening hours
