The Surgeon acts as surgical consultant for providers and patients throughout the consortium. Requires high level skill and decision making in the practice of general surgery including what patients require surgery the timing and types of operations to perform and providing preoperative perioperative and postoperative care. Support SEARHC in its mission by providing the highest quality surgical care to all SEARHC patients. This position may act in a leadership role as Chief of Service as assigned. Position requires care of patients covered by Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the JobProvides comprehensive general surgery services to inpatients and outpatients at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital to include evaluations clinical analysis and recommendations regarding complex diverse methods of therapy and as surgical consultant for village health care providers and physicians throughout Southeast Alaska. Includes field visits to remote village locations and to the Ethel Lund Medical Center in general surgical coverage to the Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital emergency in leadership positions as requested by the medical director. Participates in all medical staff functions as requested to include quality assurance reviews and medical staff meetings including the participation of peer by medical staff bylaws rules and regulations and clinical services policies/ call for this service is a requirement and is clearly associated with this type of professional modality. Due to the remote nature of our environment the expectation of call is a one in two coverage and in cooperation with the medical director and duties as Certifications and Licenses RequiredM.D. or D.O. completion of an accredited general surgery by the Alaska State Medical certification or eligibility by the American Board of ACLS Required3 years or more of experience in general surgery is desired but not ofKnowledge of general surgical practice and proceduresKnowledge of allopathic medical theories and therapies Detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiologySkills inSurgical skills related to the entire range of general surgery practice including endoscopy and skills both verbal and skills related to emergency practice particularly advanced airway and trauma toWork independently in caring for critically ill care through the entire operating room with patients and staff in an open caring and supportive fashion.
