Compensation:
Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS Salary Schedule for Substitute Teachers
Hours Per Day: Varies based on vacancies each day
Contracted Days: This is a noncontracted positionwork availability varies based on need
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Completion of 60 college credit hours and be eligible for or hold an Emergency Certificate to Substitute Teach.
Preferred:
Be a Retired Teacher
Hold teaching certification or a Statement of Eligibility
Hold a Bachelors Degree (in a field outside of education) or in some cases
Be a Teacher in training. For Teachers in Training to be considered applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
o Be enrolled in an accredited Teacher Education program and have completed a minimum of 64 credit hours within that program with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or
o Be enrolled in Masters level Teacher Education Program and have completed twelve semester hours toward that degree.
Knowledge Of:
Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer email and websites
Classroom management techniques
Documentation and recordkeeping techniques
Communication skills
Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Provide continuation of instruction and management of students in absence of the regular teacher in a variety of content areas and grade levels.
Expectations:
Instructional substitutes must work a minimum of 10 school days per school year.
o Instructional substitutes not meeting the minimum requirement will be removed from the substitute list.
Instructional substitutes excluded by 6 or more schools districtwide due to performance or other issues will be removed from the substitute list.
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide effective continuation of instruction based on lesson plans and/or instructions provided by the regular teacher
Effectively communicate assignments and instructions to students and provide assistance to students
Follow all safety and emergency procedures established by the district and/or school.
Take attendance
Supervision of students using proper classroom management techniques
Provide detailed notes and feedback to the regular teacher
Must use sound judgement and reasoning to adapt as necessary in the absence of the regular teacher and seek guidance from an administrator when appropriate
Complete grading of assignments when appropriate or as requested by the regular teacher
Maintain the cleanliness of the classroom
Protect confidential information of students and fellow staff members.
Assure compliance with federal state and district policy administrative procedures and all other procedures/policies applicable to assignment.
Prioritize plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact and patience.
Follow proper reporting procedures for all matters including but not limited to behavioral issues bullying suspected child abuse or neglect etc.
If approved as a substitute teacher you will be required to complete all state and Board mandadated trainings.
