Job Description
Overview
Hours: 30hours Days Evenings Weekends and on call
Experienced surgical technician who is competent to scrub various surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of and assists with surgical procedures by meeting the anticipated needs of the surgeon and other team members.
- Sets up table instruments and supplies according to the type of surgery being performed displaying dexterity in the use and handling of surgical instruments throughout the procedure.
- Selects prepares and knows the specific uses for all necessary supplies equipment and instrumentation used for each surgical procedure while ensuring that surgical procedure cards are current.
- Applies consistently principles of aseptic practice to all surgical procedures in order to prevent infection.
- Demonstrates correct techniques for disinfection sterilization and environmental control.
- Always opens sterile supplies aseptically by verifying exposure to a sterilization process and checking the integrity of the sterile package.
- Assists in skin preparation and draping of the patient and operative area as requested by the surgeon.
- Makes effective use of time material and motion in assisting the surgical team.
- Maintains correct account of sponges needles and instruments with the circulating nurse and reports correctness and discrepancies according to Operating Room policy and procedures.
- Disposes of sharps from sterile field per Operating Room policy and procedures.
- Prepares all specimens and cultures appropriately for laboratory analysis.
- Assists the surgical team in the care and maintenance of the surgical suite to maintain cleanliness and allow rapid room turnover.
Qualifications
- CST certification or within twelve months of graduation from approved program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist
- Current MA Surgical Technician Certification (NBSTSA)
- AHA CPR certified
- Demonstrates mature professional behaviors (i.e. tact empathy and diplomacy).
- Promotes a positive working environment
