About the Job

As our Senior Health & Safety Coordinator youll focus on coordinating the health and safety process within the respective Walker division to ensure that all employees are working in a safe manner and are properly trained to perform their job safely and effectively. You will motivate and promote safe attitudes and behaviours consistent with our Superior Safety Culture through field level engagement.

This is a 6 month contract position reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager based out of our Barrie Office.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Promote and reinforce safety initiatives ensuring compliance with legislation and company Safety Management System (SMS) policies.
  • Assist in developing and review of sitespecific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Review workplace inspection reports and safety meeting minutes to prepare weekly KPI reports for leadership and follow up on action items.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits develop corrective action plans and support Hazard Assessments.
  • Mentor and support Joint Health & Safety Committees by attending meetings and reviewing minutes.
  • Assist in managing the returntowork process to control claims costs.
  • Provide site support for incident investigations and safety alert communications.
  • Facilitate and support safety talks at various sites.

Heres What You Need

  • 58 years of seniorlevel Health and Safety experience required. Experience with Ministry of Labour inspections or other regulatory bodies is considered an asset.
  • A college certificate or university diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent experience) is required.
  • A valid Ontario G Class Drivers License in good standing and access to a vehicle for travel to local Walker sites.
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements of multiple jurisdictions as well as best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and keep accurate records to track training requirements and record incident details.
  • Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required exercise solid judgment in unusual circumstances.

Travel Requirements

You will be required to travel to various work sites during the course of the working day to perform health and safety audits conduct training sessions consult advise and observe operations from a health and safety perspective.
