Responsibilities
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in planning and coordinating athletic training services functions and programs. Provide athletic training services to studentathletes: Comprehensive injury managementfrom prevention and recognition to evaluation treatment and rehabilitation. Administering emergency first aid in the event of injury. Managing injuries and rehabilitation under a physicians direction as appropriate. Counseling athletes on injury care recovery and wellness. Preparing athletes for practices and competitions through preventative taping injury protection and safety instructions. Establish and maintain a system that ensures studentathletes receive independent medical care while also upholding that team physicians and athletic trainers retain final authority on returntoplay decisions. Stay current with advancements in athletic training practices research and technology. Travel with athletic teams as deemed appropriate by the Head Athletic Trainer. Complete administrative duties including timely documentation and review and approval of studentathlete medical records (e.g. physical exams health history questionnaires etc.. Maintain and operate athletic training room facilities and equipment. Supervise student workers as needed. If applicable serve as a preceptor to train supervise and evaluate athletic training students. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Athletic Training with current certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association NATA required. Current Maine State ATC licensing required (or ability to get to licensed). Current CPR / AED certification required or the ability to get certified. Availability to work evenings early mornings and weekends as needed. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students coaches physicians university student health staff and others. Must be flexible collaborative and maintain a positive attitude. Broadbased technical knowledge and skills related to athletic training and sports injuries. Proficiency in diagnosing and treating injuries and developing appropriate rehabilitation programs. Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and maintain confidentiality.
