Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated R&D Scientist to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in analyzing new materials troubleshooting existing formulations and driving the development of advanced security features and devices. This position requires a strong background in chromatography spectroscopy microscopy and physical and chemical separation techniques.
Responsibilities
- Material Analysis
- Utilize chromatography spectroscopy microscopy and physical and chemical separation techniques to analyze the properties of new materials.
- Working with material posing optical and magnetic properties for security documents
- Determine the applicability and effects of new materials on final product quality
- Problem Solving
- Troubleshoot existing problems with current products process materials and formulations (inks and adhesives).
- Improve existing test procedures and research develop and implement new test methodologies.
- Innovation and Development
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams (R&D Marketing Design Manufacturing) to drive the CBN innovation agenda.
- Develop new security features and devices.
- Contribute to and lead small R&D projects in accordance with our innovation process.
- Scientific and Technological Awareness
- Maintain a high level of awareness regarding scientific and technological advances related to secure document production.
- Provide input in the development process of new ideas and concepts that lead to solutions to customer problems.
- Manufacturing Quality Control
- Build an understanding of the secure document manufacturing process.
- Develop technology and procedures that will improve manufacturing quality control.
- Compliance and Standards
- Stay current with and work in accordance with ISO standardsgood laboratory practices (GLP) and the mandates associated with working in a secure environment.
Qualifications :
Education & Knowledge
- Ph.D. or Masters degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. Physics Chemistry Materials Science Biotechnology).
- Knowledge of the following is an asset:
- Digital printing (inkjet toner digital press and thermal transfer)
- Traditional printing (screen lithography intaglio flexo)
Technical Concepts & Methodologies
- Strong foundation in scientific research principles and experimental design.
- Familiarity with prototyping laboratory techniques and emerging technologies.
- Understanding of intellectual property patents and regulatory considerations.
- Experience with data analysis machine learning or computational modeling is an asset.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent problemsolving and creativity in research approaches.
- Ability to communicate complex findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
Experience
- 37 years of experience in research and development within industry or academia.
- Experience in publishing research findings patenting innovations or product development.
Technical Environment
- Lab Equipment & Prototyping: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) FTIR drop analyzer (surface energy measurement) and visible & fluorescent spectrometer
- Programming & Simulation Tools: Python MATLAB is an asset
Mandatory Requirements
- Language: Fluency in English (reading writing speaking)
- Travel: Ability to travel domestically/internationally (passport required) approx. 12 weeks/year
- Security clearance: Ability to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) clearance
