Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Manages multiregion communication and coordination of lobbying efforts on behalf of the University.
Develops and strengthen relationships with elected officials policy makers and leaders of appropriate state agencies in highly diverse and complex environments.
Monitors legislation and policy activities updates and advises University partners about policy proposals and actions and works with relevant University teams to analyze potential impacts on the University.
Plans and implements multiregion events and other activities to support the Universitys government relations goals such as statehouse days town halls affiliate visits and meetings.
Participate in the development of multiple state strategic initiatives in support of the Universitys government relations agenda such as talking points legislative summaries factsheets testimony reports and letters.
Be an inspiring and motivational collaborator with individuals at all levels and in all functions of the University. Initiate education and training opportunities to engage staff in and to demystify the legislative process.
Authentically reflect and portray the mission of WGU. Become a reliable subject matter expert on student success disruptive innovation and competencybased education.

The successful Government Relations Manager will have a record of achieving aggressive goals while operating in a crossfunctional capacity. The Government Relations Manager adeptly navigates external environments that may impact the University and its operations. Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years of relevant experience with abachelorsdegreeor3 years and amastersdegree or adoctorate orterminal degree
Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum five 5 years of managing successful multistate lobbying initiatives with experience in higher education and academic operations highly desired or minimum two 2 years employment with WGU and involvement in Government Relations practice area projects or analogous engagement on behalf of WGU students
Preferred Qualifications:
Employment experience with WGU most preferred in studentfacing role
May have broad knowledge of project management.
Ability to travel
Schedule flexibility to include occasional evenings and weekends
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
