Within our Analytical Services team we have a functional service provider solution which is a unique partnership that allows our customers to leverage the experience of our staff while allowing you the employee to gain direct experience working onsite at a pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical company all while maintaining fulltime benefits.

Key responsibilities:

As an Associate Scientist/ Scientist you will use powerful technologies to perform highquality research for key pharmaceutical clients across the industry. Your problemsolving skills are an integral piece in helping PPD accomplish our goal of helping bring lifechanging therapies to market. You will join the Synthetic Molecule Process Chemistry team working onsite at the client location to support pharmaceutical research and development focused on process chemistry and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing campaigns.

  • Discover and develop robust chemical processes by conducting experiments to scout synthetic routes and optimize reactions for yield selectivity and product purity
  • Demonstrate developed synthetic processes at laboratory and kilogram scales to enable timely delivery of early and midphase synthetic molecule development candidates in the clients growing pipeline in accordance with cGMP ICH and FDA regulations
  • Develop crystallization processes to isolate synthetic intermediates and control bulk quality attributes of the API conducive to successful development and formulation
  • Make detailed observations interpret results and document findings via electronic laboratory notebook batch records and milestone development reports
  • The ability to learn quickly and ultimately to interact with crossfunctional team members and contract manufacturing partners
  • A desire to keep current with developments in the field through peerreviewed journals and other media

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in lab sciences such as Chemistry Organic Chemistry or similar
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 24 years)
  • OR Masters degree

In some cases an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education training and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Process Chemistry / Synthetic Organic Chemistry background desired
  • Publication records desired
  • Proficiency in NMR HPLC and GC instrumentation
  • A strong working knowledge of the latest developments in contemporary chemistry including chemo and/or bio catalysis/asymmetric transformations organometallic chemistry as well as experience in heterocyclic chemistry
  • Ability to understand and independently apply GMP and/or GLP principles in documentation and instrument use
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for data analysis and documentation
  • Ability to independently optimize chemical reactions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Effective time management and project management skills
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting abilities

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $32.89$39.99.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company team and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on which includes:
