Job Description

Job Title:Police Officer

Exemption Status/ Test:Nonexempt

Reports to:Chief of Police

Department/ School:Police Department/ Assigned Campus(es)

Minimum Salary:$23.57/ hour

AnnualWork Calendar Days:215 Days

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  1. Active certification as a Police Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCOLE).
  2. High School diploma or GED(recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  3. Valid Texas drivers license and good driving record. Meet and maintain liability coverage and eligibility.
  4. Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of a fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50 paid by employee.
  5. Meet minimal requirement for TCOLE SRO Certification Renewal annually.


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Knowledge of laws rules and regulations applicable to the position
  2. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  3. Demonstrate logical effective problemsolving ability
  4. Training and ability to subdue offenders including the use of firearms and handcuffs
  5. Strong relations communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Ability to work with students parents faculty and community
  7. Ability to problemsolve think critically and manage conflict under stress of time constraints and emotional witnesses/victims
  8. Pass the criminal history drug testing medical and psychological screening process
  9. Ability to work all shifts holidays and weekends and a variety of assignments as directed.

Experience:

Background in law enforcement or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Law Enforcement

  1. Patrol assigned campus(es) and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction.
  2. Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations accidents and reports of crime.
  3. Investigate criminal offenses occurring within the districts jurisdiction.
  4. Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.
  5. Arrest perpetrators file appropriate charges and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.
  6. Write effective legal incident reports.
  7. Testify in court as needed.
  8. Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.

Safety

  1. Prepare police reports; identify and report potential safety and security hazards conduct initial investigations and act on community and district concerns.
  2. Collaborate with district and campus staff who oversee safety protocols.
  3. Follow the departments safety procedures including procedures for safe handling and use of firearms.
  4. Patrol district property to protect all students staff and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism.
  5. Follow the district Emergency Response Guide and Emergency Operations Procedures (EOP).

Administration

  1. Maintain secured property room for storage of weapons and contraband confiscated on district property.
  2. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents as required.

Expectations:

  1. Perform all duties outlined in district procedures rules and regulations and policies.
  2. Work any hours shifts days or assignments given to include holidays weekends etc. as designated by the supervisor.
  3. Serves as an appropriate positive role model for students.
  4. Perform special duty assignments overtime protective details and all other duties required.
  5. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

  7. Follow all safety and security procedures.
  8. Work effectively within a team.
  9. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle firearms handcuffs security equipment twoway radio alarm system and other security equipment fire extinguisher and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse prolonged driving

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying 1544 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) moderate exposure to noise frequent district wide travel

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day.
