Job Description
The Drr Group is one of the worlds leading mechanical and plant engineering firms. Products systems and services offered by Drr enable highly efficient manufacturing processes in different industries. Business with automobile manufacturers and their suppliers accounts for approximately 60 of Drrs sales. Other market segments include for example the mechanical engineering chemical and pharmaceutical industries and the woodworking industry. The Drr Group operates in the market with five divisions
- Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paint shops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry
- Application Technology: robot technologies for the automatic application of paint as well as sealants and adhesives Measuring and Process Systems: balancing and cleaning systems as well as testing and filling technology
- Clean Technology Systems: exhaustair purification systems and energyefficiency technology
- Woodworking Machinery and Systems: machinery for the woodworking
We are a growing organization and we are seeking a Design Engineer to join our Clean Technology Systems division. Together with the momentum of our business vision we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Drr influences at a global level.
Location: Southfield MI
Position Summary: The Design Engineer is responsible for generating and managing concepts mechanical sketches and drawings required to effectively bid fabricate install and/or commission various types of paint finishing equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Utilize a computer aided design (CAD) system to create drawings 2D and 3D)
- Interpret schematics to develop complete system designs
- Apply SMACNA general air handling system calculations to determine proper duct and component sizes and configurations
- Travel to local customer sites and participate in field measurements
- Maintain project schedules
- Effectively communicate and interact with engineering and estimating departments contractors suppliers and customers
- Control and document the distribution and archiving of drawings and documents
- Understand diagnose and solve real or potential design problems
- Attend and contribute to design review meetings
- Interpret mechanical drawings
- Travel less than 10
Nonessential Functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Engineering Mechanical Design or related field preferred
- 5 or more years of experience
- Experienced with mechanical layout detail drawings and basic piping
- Experienced with sheet metal and structural steel design and welding codes
- Experienced with combustion systems
- Experienced with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations
- Strong skills in math and geometry
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD 2D and 3D)
- Proficient in the use of Solidworks
- Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word Excel and Outlook
- Good time management skills
- Good organizational skills
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good technical writing skills
- Good communication skills with coworkers suppliers and customers
- Able to work well independently and in a team environment
- Ability to technically define problems and propose solutions
- Adaptable to change in a learning environment
- Selfstarter capable of executing assigned tasks and solving problems in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Willing and able to work overtime weekends and holidays when necessary
Physical Demands: While performing duties of job incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
