Licensed dedicated Exceptional Childrens teacher needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville NC.
The purpose of the EC teacher is to plan organize and present instruction and create instructional environments that help students learn content and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. The EC teacher is expected to plan and implement a comprehensive curriculum including extended content standards. The teacher should be well versed in and understand Policy Governing Exceptional Children. Be prepared to provide leadership and coordination as well as facilitate the efficient operation of student IEPs and collaborate with other members of the department in addition to content area personnel to vertically align curriculum while providing access for students with Individual Educational Plans.
Hiring bonus of $2000 to be paid over two installments.
Salary based on IC Imagines Certified/ Licensed TeachersSalary Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand the needs of students they are working with based on Individual Education Plans Behavior Intervention Plans Health & Safety plans
- Assist in creating and implementing behavior intervention plans
- Ability to create lesson plans modify or adapt curriculum to make content accessible and align to grade level standards and IEP
- Monitor progress of academic behavioral and social/emotional skills
- Frequent written communication with parents and families of students
- Regular and consistent communication with colleagues and administrators
- Coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants
- Plan and facilitate activities to support the transition needs of caseload students preferred
- Manage instructional time efficiently
- Prepare for instruction by creating lesson plans organizing materials supplies and equipment necessary
- Use resources necessary to plan implement and evaluate instructional practices necessary to follow the guidelines of the NC Standards for all courses taught.
- Design instruction appropriate for all students that reflects understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment.
- Support inclusive practices by modifying or adapting students with disabilities work to ensure accessibility to grade level standards or extended content standards
- Provide instruction to students in the separate resource and inclusion settings as indicated by each students IEP
- Collaborate with general education teachers support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
- Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook respond to emails in a timely manner keep grades updated weekly and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information regarding student IEP goal progress and courses delivered in special education.
- Will perform additional duties including but not limited to supervision during noninstructional time attending after school events and meetings participating in enrollment activities leading into and during the Open Enrollment period.
- Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.
Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in problem solving and decision making as well as observation listening and coaching
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Maintain effective working relationships
- Possess strong time management skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
- Proficiency with GSuite
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelors Degree
- Valid North Carolina teaching license in Exceptional Children: Adapted Curriculum or related exceptional children area
- 1 year teaching experience preferred
- Experience writing Individual Educational Plans
- Extensive knowledge of the Child Find Process and Policies Governing Students with Disabilities
- Knowledge of and skilled in progress monitoring of academic behavioral and social/emotional skills
- Familiarity or experience working within inclusive and selfcontained classroom
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing kneeling squatting reaching and bending
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
