Job Description

Official Title:Laboratory ManagerBusiness Title:Employment Class:Academic StaffFTE:1.0Compensation:

Starting salary $43500 commensurate with experience

FLSA Status:ExemptTerms of Employment:Fixed Term Terminal 9month academic year)Position Summary:

The Lab Manager will oversee the technical activities operations and planning in support of teaching and research spaces ensuring quality control and regulatory compliance. Perform routine tasks which could include overseeing maintenance of equipment records and administrative tasks.

The candidate selected to fill this position will begin work in Fall 2025 at the start of the academic year however a few weeks of paid training may be available at the end of the summer.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates directs and supervises the daytoday laboratory operations and/or staff in teaching and research spaces to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory agency standards.
  • Develops and facilitates training in use of autoclaves and other media prep equipment.
  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of routine technical duties and provides assistance to research and/or laboratory staff
  • Serves as the lab liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing information making recommendations to leadership and representing the interests of the school.
  • Monitors program budgets and expenditures.
  • Identifies and proposes new or revised policies and procedures related to their work area.
  • Preparation of bacterial media and maintenance of stock bacterial cultures
  • Assist in the care of departmental collections such as greenhouse plants body donors and specimen collections (e.g. mammals birds and herbarium).
  • Uses maintains calibrates and sets up lab equipment and apparatuses according to established policies and procedures and documents activities
QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Prior background or experience in basic biological techniques such as making solutions
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks on multiple timelines/schedules as well as the demonstrated ability to effectively remain organized and meet deadlines.
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a variety of individuals.
  • Experience or familiarity with sterile technique & culturing of bacteria
  • Experience with proper lab equipment setup maintenance and/or use.
  • Experience monitoring coaching or supervising students or staff in a lab or other learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear effective and professional manner.
