Job Description
TITLE:School Social Worker
POSTION TYPE:TCHR
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Masters Degree in Social Work.
- Professional Service License or Statement of Professional Recognition
- Iowa Department of Public Health license (LMSW or LISW).
Desired:
- Experience in a school setting.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Enhance the educational programs of individuals by assisting in identification
assessment and support of their educational needs including social emotional behavioral and adaptive needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate within a multidisciplinary team that serves students with disabilities.
- Conduct data based Functional Behavior Assessments collaboratively develop BehaviorIntervention Plans and support fidelity in implementation.
- Provide disability related group and individual counseling with students utilizing evidencebased approaches.
- Serve as liaison between home school and community.
- Keep current with issues techniques and future trends in the field of school social work.
- Provide leadership and support for students with disabilities who are not making progress behaviorally.
- Coordinate team consultation with the Des Moines Training Team.
- Facilitate referrals between school community resources and families.
- Manage Medicaid billing.
- Provide consultation to school personnel and parents on issues related to social/emotional health.
- Conduct training for parents and school staff.
- Assist building administrators in addressing attendance and suspension issues.
- Advocate for the human and civil rights of students.
- Conduct home visits as necessary.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
