JOB TITLE SubstituteCustodian

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of Head Custodian performs custodial work required for the general maintenance of buildings.

DEPARTMENT Facilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to lift 25 lbs on a regular daily basis to perform job.
  2. Able to lift 50 to 75 lbs occasionally to perform job.
  3. Able to lift 100 lbs on on occasion.
  4. Able to push and pull objects up to 75 lbs.
  5. Physical work is 95 of duties.
  6. Able to work in all types of weather conditions.
  7. Able to walk kneel bend and twist to complete obligations.
  8. Report to work each day clean and neat and in uniform.
  9. Able to climb ladders and work at various heights.
  10. Able to work in confined spaces as as required.
  11. Ability to make fast simple repeated movements of the fingers hands and wrist.
  12. Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving outor fatiguing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Able to work in all types of weather conditions.
  2. Able to walk kneel bend and twist to complete obligations.
  3. Ability to monitor radio messages while doing other work throughout the building and grounds assigned.

REPORTS TO Head Custodian of Assigned Building

SUPERVISES None

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve month work year with wages and benefits established annually by the Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy 411.7 Classified Employee Evaluation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs cleaning in all areas of a building and surrounding grounds.
  2. Performs cleaning of all floor areas such as vacuuming shampooing sweeping mopping stripping scrubbing waxing and buffing.
  3. Cleans and polishes all bathroom fixtures.
  4. Cleans and washes all glass surfaces ceilings and walls. The use of a ladder may be required.
  5. Replaces light bulbs and cleans light fixtures using a ladder as required.
  6. Handles both clean and soiled linens. Refills holder of disposable items such as soap bathroom tissue paper towels etc. Cleans and disinfects as necessary in all areas.
  7. Reports breakage and needed repairs.
  8. Moves furniture supplies and miscellaneous equipment; removes draperies and rugs periodically for cleaning.
  9. Collects trash from receptacles throughout the building and empties it into the dumpsters.
  10. Performs duties in the immediate exterior of building such as sweeping sidewalks snow and ice removal at entrances cleaning ash pits cleaning debris from grounds and window well and cleaning exterior windows.
  11. Assists in unloading trucks unpacking assembling and moving equipment and picks up and returns equipment for repair by maintenance.
  1. Operates high pressure watercleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners and showers.
  2. Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned and equipment and supplies required.
  3. Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning; to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery; to use arm muscles in hand cleaning mopping and scrubbing for protracted periods of time; to work on ladders.
  4. Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques.
  5. Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.
  6. Knowledge of the safe use of chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.
