Position Description

POSITION TITLE:English Language Development Teacher

FLSA: Exempt Professional

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State teacher certification with English as a Second Language endorsement.
  • Masters degree in education English as a Second Language preferred.
  • Leadership and organizational qualities which include the ability to facilitate teams communicate collaboratively train and lead others and coordinate data
  • Working knowledge and understanding of language proficiency and English Learner development

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Based on the schoolcalendar.

REPORTS TO:Building administration

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The ELD Teacher provides specialized instruction for the purposes of developing the students abilities to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide evaluation and testing for nonEnglish speaking and limited proficiency students.
  2. Provide instruction to each EL student appropriate to his/her level as determined by informal and formal assessments.
  3. Maintain records for each students individual and academic instructional program.
  4. Facilitate frequent and effective homeschool communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; other meetings/events; and administrative support for interpreting translations etc.
  5. Provide referral to existing guidance and counseling as well as other support resources within the district where appropriate.
  6. Provide assessment for newly arriving nonEnglish speaking students.
  7. Confer with classroom teachers regarding each students program.
  8. Participate in inservice and teacher training provided by the district.
  9. Meet with program director or EL supervisor at regular intervals.
  10. Provide support and resource information to classroom teachers and the building intervention team.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strive to improve professional competence.
  2. Support the total school program by observing curricular and extracurricular student activities.
  3. Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  4. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  5. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  6. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  7. Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
  8. Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
