Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Audiologist will evaluate auditory function of patients; provide rehabilitation for patients; refer to patients to other appropriate clinics and counsel patients on hearing conservation and/or hearing loss. The audiologist will also assist in medical and audiology students and other nonmedical staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Evaluate auditory function of patients utilizing standard pure tone and speech tests diagnostic audiologic tests; immittance tests site of lesion tests and auditory brainstem response (ABR) audiometry.
  • Evaluate vestibular system with electronystamography (ENG) procedures.
  • Performs advanced electrophysiologic measures to evaluate hearing balance and auditory processing disorders.
  • Independently evaluate and provide direct clinical services to patients who have hearing balance and related ear problems.
  • Counsel patients regarding test results and review options that best meet their hearing care needs. Review pricing and sale of hearing aids as a part of the patient education process.
  • Interpret results and coordinate them with medical and educational information to make a diagnosis and determine a course of treatment.
  • Effectively communicate diagnostic test results diagnoses and proposed treatments in a manner easily understood by otologists.
  • Refer appropriately to otologists.
  • Provide hearing aid evaluations counseling and referrals.
  • Prescribe fit and evaluate hearing aids and other hearing devices.
  • Provide followup consultations to ensure optimal fitting.
  • Documents each audiologic patient visit including diagnosis instructions given to the patient therapies followups etc.
  • Provide inservice training for medical and audiology students and nonmedical staff.
  • Maintain clinic material and equipment including periodic calibration checks and motor repairs and adjustment.
  • Assist with coordination of audiological services and activities in the neighborhood health centers schools and appropriate agencies.
  • Perform Performance Improvement assignments as required.
  • May conduct research on types ofand treatment forhearing balance and related disorders. Others design and develop equipment or techniques for diagnosing and treating these disorders.
  • Interact and work with related services such as speechlanguage pathology pediatrics neonatology etc. to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Utilizes hospitals behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospitals mission and goals.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

OTHER DUTIES:

Perform other duties as needed.

JOB REQUIREEMNTS

EDUCATION:

Requires a doctoral of Audiology (AuD) degree from an accredited program in Audiology.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Requires a certificate of clinical competence in Audiology granted by American SpeechLanguage and Hearing Association by the time of start date.

Current Audiologist license issued by the board of registration for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology in Massachusetts. Must be obtained by start date.

EXPERIENCE:

13 years of clinical audiology experience preferred but not required. New graduates encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Requires knowledge of the theories principles and practices of audiology basic clinical audiology audiometry the psychology of learning and the principles of human growth and development as applied to speech of audiology equipment medical terminology of counseling of problems of the hearing impaired and the physically handicapped and of the sources for providing speech language therapy.
  • Ability to coach and provide training to medical and nonmedical personnel in audiology to plan assign coordinate and evaluate work.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships.
  • Ability to read write and communicate effectively.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook) and web browsers.
