The Youth and Family Advisory Liaison is responsible for leading and managing the Youth and Family Advisory Council (YFAC) the Voices Network and related working groups to bring this philosophy to life. A key function of the liaison role is to connect internal program leaders and areas with Council members to present items for their advisory at Council meetings or other identified avenues. The liaison arranges all Council meetings and agendas may plan recognition recruitment or community events and plays a key role in ensuring that youth and family volunteers are engaged in and contributing to the organizations strategic direction in an effective and impactful manner including sharing their stories and experiences wherever possible.
The Youth and Family Advisory Liaison will:
Leads and supports the Youth and Family Advisory Council and related working groups.
Schedules plans and facilitates monthly Council meetings in collaboration with youth and family cochairs.
Leads with the youth and family cochairs the development and implementation of the Youth and Family Advisory Councils work plan ensuring alignment with the organizations strategic and operational plans.
Work closely with clinical and other departments to bring meaningful items to counsel for input.
Administers the Youth and Family Liaison department budget and related business activity.
Reviews council structure and activity annually to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Engages in awareness and recruitment activity related to YFAC and its work.
Actively recruits youth parents and caregivers with lived experience to the main council and standing committees ensuring vacancies are filled in a timely manner.
Helps patients and families tell their stories by facilitating regular story workshops and arranging for council members to attend board meetings senior leadership meetings and other opportunities as they arise.
Acts as a spokesperson as needed for the Youth and Family Advisory Council or CASA at large.
Qualifications
Postsecondary education in a related field (social work psychology child and youth studies education volunteerism) is an asset.
Lived experience in or familiarity with the mental health system in Alberta is an asset but not required.
Ability to foster meaningful relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth parents and caregivers.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability and commitment to maintaining a high level of confidentiality at all times.
Excellent organizational and planning skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Keen attention to detail.
Ability to manage conflict and collaboratively problem solve.
Experience facilitating and leading teams and/or groups.
Experience and/or interest in children adolescent and family mental health and illness is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools (e.g. Asana).
