Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Communications the Youth Council Coordinator will work closely with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Youth Council supporting their efforts to advocate for First Nations youth in Manitoba. This role involves coordinating initiatives securing funding opportunities developing work plans and ensuring that the Youth Council has a strong platform to engage with leadership nations and the broader public. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth empowerment advocacy and First Nations governance with strong organizational and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between the AMC Youth Council AMC Secretariat and Grand Chiefs Office.
  • Support the Youth Council in applying for funding managing grants and identifying financial resources to sustain and expand their initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an annual Youth Council work plan aligning with AMC priorities and the needs of First Nations youth in Manitoba.
  • Coordinate meetings events and advocacy campaigns ensuring that the Youth Council has the resources and support needed to be effective.
  • Provide guidance in drafting communications materials including press releases statements social media posts and reports that elevate the Youth Councils work and priorities.
  • Work with the AMC Communications team to develop a strong online presence for the Youth Council ensuring their initiatives are promoted through digital storytelling social media and website content.
  • Help facilitate opportunities for the Youth Council to engage with First Nations Leadership provincial and federal policymakers and community stakeholders to advocate for youthdriven priorities.
  • Assist in organizing workshops training and mentorship opportunities that support the professional and leadership development of Youth Council members.
  • Monitor and provide updates on policy issues affecting First Nations youth ensuring that the Youth Council is informed and able to respond effectively.
  • Maintain records of meetings decisions and initiatives for internal reporting and strategic planning purposes.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education & Experience

  • A degree or diploma in Communications Political Science Indigenous Studies Youth Engagement Public Administration or a related field. Considerations will be given to individuals with work experience in place of post secondary.
  • Minimum of two 2 years of experience in youth engagement program coordination advocacy or communications.
  • Experience applying for and managing grants and funding applications is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nations governance policies and youth advocacy issues in Manitoba.
  • Strong communication skills including experience writing reports social media content and funding proposals.
  • Ability to coordinate largescale meetings gatherings and advocacy events.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous youth programs networks and opportunities that could benefit the Youth Council.
  • Experience working in a First Nations organizational setting is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with various teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 drivers license and reliable transportation.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check upon hire.
