$69478.00 $87764.00About the Common Law Section of the Faculty of LawPosition purpose:
Advises the ViceDeans and the Chief Administrative Officer in a designated faculty concerning recruitment and selection performance management application of the APTPUO collective agreement and development relating to teaching staff as well as APUO workloads and financial components related to those workloads. Provides input to harmonize University policies and processes with the facultys strategic direction and initiatives.
Advises and ensures communication between the two ViceDeans University Senior Management and teaching staff relative to the APTPUO collective agreement. Analyzes issues to recommend interventions and implement solutions. Manages the two ViceDeans office activities administers committee administrative work (TPC and Hiring committees) and assists the ViceDeans in their administrative and financial duties. Acts as the primary point of contact between the central Academic Affairs and Labour Relations team and the faculty in regard to all APTPUO matters.
In this role your responsibilities will include among others:
Integration of University academic processes: Handles integration of academic management processes and systems within the designated faculty planning or management framework. Develops and maintains an indepth understanding of both legislation and University of Ottawa policies procedures and practices and their impact on the facultys academic operations. Helps develop local academic processes practices and databases and ensures they help achieve the faculty objectives.
Advisory services: Provides consulting services and support to the two ViceDeans on complex issues related to APTPUO teaching staff and the collective agreement as well as APUO workloads and financial components. Identifies problems issues and implications for senior management concerning operational plans and recommends solutions.
Labour relations: Advises and supports the Dean and the two ViceDeans on employee relations pertaining to the APTPUO collective agreement including workload performance promotions leave and other issues pertaining to the collective agreement. Investigates special cases and recommends courses of action. Collaborates with the faculty management team and the central Academic Affairs and Labour Relations team and resolves issues related to accommodations disability management harassment and other health and safety issues.
Recruitment and selection: Coordinates the posting and selection process for new professors and all of APTPUO in accordance with human resources policies and procedures and collective agreements. Implements selection processes for new departmental chairpersons and advises on matters related to management of teaching staff.
What you will bring:
Knowledge of administration normally acquired through postsecondary education or equivalent experience
Knowledge of and experience in applying practices and laws governing human resources for teaching staff
Knowledge of and experience in applying and interpreting collective agreements
Experience in a university environment
Experience using computer systems and software such as Windows word processors spreadsheets databases email and the internet
Experience in analysis with problemsolving skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment under pressure with firm deadlines
Initiative leadership judgment and autonomy
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work with discretion and tact and to manage confidential files
Bilingualism French and English (spoken and written)

The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
