This position functions as a Program Specialist and directs the overall operation of the biological laboratory portion of the CDC Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Biological (Bioterrorism) cooperative agreement. This position requires a high level of expertise in clinical microbiology to enable the laboratory to assess critical test results for evidence of bioterrorist agents such as anthrax. This position is responsible for overseeing statewide implementation of project activities and coordination with other public health partners including hospital and commercial diagnostic microbiology laboratories. This position is responsible for the development of training materials providing inservice and online training conducting meetings designing and directing exercises and researching studies in support of grant related required outputs. The position must evaluate the overall statewide laboratory program for the detection and identification of biologic agents of bioterrorism and implement changes to improve response as necessary.

Required Education and Experience
- EducationPossession of a bachelors degree in microbiology medical technology clinical laboratory sciences or a related field.ExperienceMicrobiologist Specialist 13Five years of experience equivalent to a Microbiologist including three years equivalent to a Microbiologist P11 two years equivalent to a Microbiologist 12 or one year equivalent to a Microbiologist Specialist 13.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Lansing MI.
