Are you looking for the opportunity to build your management skills Richmond District South Hill Residency is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with strong highway maintenance experience and leadership skills to become a frontline supervisor for roadway maintenance crew for the Sturgeonville Area Headquarters. The Maintenance Supervisor assists the area superintendent in assessing needs and planning scheduling assigning and evaluating work; estimating materials labor and cost and ordering supplies; monitoring expenditures assisting in forecasting and budget reports; and supervising area maintenance and contract crews during normal and emergency operations. The position will be responsible for leading safety meetings and training staff on safety methods and protocols; investigating customer inquiries and identifying solutions; maintaining work accomplishment records and project documentation; and serving as backup inventory manager.

This position is designated as essential during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather disaster response and emergency operations.

Additional positions may be filled from this applicant pool 90 days upon closing at the South Hill Residency.

Minimum Qualifications

Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.
Valid Drivers license.
Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to direct evaluate and train others.
Safety shoes required.
Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment. Ability to obtain and maintain required certification thereafter.
Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.

Additional Considerations

A combination of training experience or education in Management. Maintenance Construction or related field desired.
DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification.
Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.
Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.
Ability to gather data conduct research and create reports.
Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal storm damage and accident cleanup.

Special Instructions

Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Fingerprint based background check references work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment. Preemployment physical with drug screen will be required. Requires approved safety shoes. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. H1B VISA Sponsorship is not available.

Employees hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date. You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification. New Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require entrylevel drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time upgrade their CDL to a Class A from a Class B or take the knowledge test to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to complete FMCSA approved EntryLevel Driving (ELD) Training before the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or endorsement. The course is comprised of 160 hours on average of training. VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.
