Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center is a private notforprofit community health care provider governed by a communitybased board of trustees. Since its founding in 1973 the original 59bed shortstay hospital has grown into a comprehensive acute care medical center with 226 licensed beds. We specialize in womens and childrens services surgery cardiology oncology orthopedics gerontology psychiatry emergency services and community health education. In June 1998 Howard County General Hospital joined Johns Hopkins Medicine. In June 2023 the hospital was renamed Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs direct patient care tasks under the direction of the Registered Nurse and performs various tasks as competency documentation designates. Work occasionally requires internal contacts outside the work group to exchange relevant information. Communication with external contacts involves providing or giving factual information.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is dedicated to adult patients requiring intensive monitoring and care including after surgery or due to medical conditions including cardiac care. The ICU is staffed 24 hours a day by highly qualified Johns Hopkins physicians who are boardcertified in internal pulmonary and critical care medicine. An interdisciplinary team of specialized nurses respiratory therapists pharmacists dieticians and other technical staff works in collaboration with the physician conducts daily patient care rounds with this team to develop an individualized plan of care for each patient. Continued care is coordinated by social workers andcase managers.
