Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and landgrant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Administration.

Fort Valley State University the only 1890 landgrant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Behavioral Sciences at Fort Valley State University invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position with appointment to begin August 1 2025. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of scholastic excellence in Public Administration and an earned PhD in the discipline. This position is a fulltime tenure track position in Public Administration in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The Assistant/Associate Professor will teach graduatelevel courses in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program. The preferred candidate will also develop collaborations with faculty in the Department College and University as well as assist with departmental activities and initiatives.

Successful candidates will have experience and scholastic interests in public administration that include two or more of the following areas: data analysis budgeting and finance performance management program or policy evaluation and local government administration. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or professional experience in Emergency Management and/or Homeland Security.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Teach graduate and undergraduate level Public Administration and related courses in a facetoface online or hybrid format.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the department chair every semester and maintain office hours (a minimum of 10 hours per week).
  • Advise students; actively participate in the recruitment of students.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to research and strengthening the MPA and undergraduate programs in the department.
  • Assist students in acquiring internships and job placement.
  • Serve on departmental college and universitylevel committees.
  • Advise students; actively participate in the recruitment of students.
  • Assist the MPA program in the NASPAA Accreditation process.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to research and strengthening the programs in the department.
  • Serve on departmental college and universitylevel committees.
  • Participate in seeking extramural funding for research and educational programs.
  • Participate in continuous assessment of programlevel and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in community service and outreach programs on behalf of the institution.
  • Provide service to the University and professional organizations.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Public Administration Public Management with specialization in public budgeting program evaluation public affairs and nonprofit management completed prior to 2022.
  • Graduate coursework or interest in research and teaching in the following area: public budgeting and finance program evaluation and public affairs.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
  • Excellent analytical oral and written communication skills and teamwork.
  • 23 years of experience teaching public administration graduate level courses at a university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years graduate teaching experience in Public Administration and Emergency Management and/or Homeland Security.
  • Prior experience in teaching public budgeting and finance program evaluation comparative public administration or Policy graduate level courses. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or professional experience Emergency Management and/or Homeland Security.
  • Demonstrated success in research publication and other scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NASPAA Accreditation Standards for Professional Masters Degree Programs in Public and Nonprofit Policy Affairs and Administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in education and public service setting.
  • Ability to provide graduate students with the knowledge and preparation necessary for leadership roles in an increasing complex society.
