About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual with a track record of designing developing and maintaining geoscience data systems to join the Exploration Data Systems and Capability team. This role sits within the Exploration Excellence and Innovation group and reports to the Manager Data Systems and Capability. The role is ideally based in Toronto however other BHP office locations will be considered for the right candidate. Note that BHP requires officebased workforce to apply the 321 principle to hybrid work. This policy means: a minimum of 3 days working in the office; up to two days working from home; and at least one day on a Monday or Friday.

The Geoscience Data function manages the ingestion of data from source to Exploration data repositories and then subsequently to internal and external stakeholders. Its remit is to manage geoscience data flows into and within Minerals Exploration Team in order to facilitate the availability of businesscritical data to the teams. The function is also part of the team responsible for the design adaption and maintenance of Mineral Explorations data infrastructure. This includes cloudbased platforms serverbased applications databases software and hardware.

Main Accountabilities

• Accountable for developing designing and maintaining components of Explorations central data repository and data platforms.
• Accountable for working with Principal Geoscience Data roles to develop workflows geoscience data standards best practices.
• Accountable for all systems and protocols concerned with the ingestion and management of structured and unstructured data from both internal and external sources across all Exploration applications and geographies.
• Managing contracts with external data providers and responsible for maintaining high standards in contract performance.
• Accountable for data integrity and security hosted within Explorations data systems.
• Screen for and maintain links with external and internal data source providers.
• Provide support to the Exploration group on the use of GIS 3D geological modelling (e.g. Leapfrog) prospectivity analysis (e.g. fuzzy logic modelling) other forms of quantitative geoscience.
• Liaise closely with Technology and group BHP Data support functions and communicate relevant developments to broader Exploration.

About You

• Deeply curious and enthusiastic about testing and adoption of new technology and ways of working.
• Degree qualification in Geoscience Data or Technology from a reputable university.
• Greater than 5 years experience in economic geoscience and/or business experience in geoscientific data applications and detailed understanding of the workflows and data infrastructures that support them.
• Advanced skills in GIS database design and management.
• Advanced English language skills and ability to create and publish userfriendly workflows operating procedures and guidelines on data standards.
• Core proficiency in the QAQC of geoscience data for at least one or more of the geoscience disciplines.
• Experienced in the development of partnerships (both internal and external).
• Strong desire and demonstrated ability to identify and implement opportunities for step change performance improvements.
• Selfstarting individual with demonstrated curiosity and ability to identify crossdisciplinary ideas through a global network.
• Experienced in project management skills with the ability to work within large multidisciplinary teams engaging stakeholders and broader exploration teams. Agile management skills will be considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of typical exploration mining software suites such as acQuire Seequent Esri suite is highly recommended.
• Passionate about geoscience data standards with focus on delivering the best data solutions to our Exploration teams.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts and workflows to technical and nontechnical audiences.
