Job Description

Job Title: Process Coordinator (multiple openings)
Department:Special Education Services
Pay Grade: Teachers Salary Schedule plus $4000 supplement and10 additional days
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Associate Director Special Services

GENERAL PURPOSE

The IDEA Process Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of the special education process from screening through identification IEP development and placement to ensure appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities and district compliance with state and federal requirements for implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in accordance with district policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates special education programs policies and diagnostic procedures.
  • Organizes and ensures completion of all evaluation reports and IEPs.
  • Conducts compliance efforts of special education PreK12 through age 21; completes reviews of all special education IEP/IFSP documents ensuring compliance with District procedures state and federal laws.
  • Performs and monitors evaluation and timelines to ensure appropriate student placement and programming.
  • Serves as local education agency representative for IEP meetings in assigned buildings as necessary.
  • Collaborates with principals department heads and other team members to facilitate the integration of all students into the least restrictive environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality and a positive view of children and families served.
  • Collaborates with a variety of district special education staff and outside entities implementing and maintaining services to assist in documentation and legal compliance.
  • Coordinates program components support needs and material as assigned assisting special education teachers and delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
  • Implements assigned programs and/or projects conforming to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.
  • Corresponds on a regular basis with parents by phone email or video conferencing.
  • Maintains a variety of files and/or records providing uptodate reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Participates in meetings processes etc. including weekly staff meetings with special education teams at each school implementing and maintaining programs and services that achieve the districts desired objectives.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information on a variety of topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback.
  • Researches a variety of special education topics providing information and/or recommendations and/or addressing a variety of program requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Certification in any area of special education issued by the Department of Elementary or Secondary Education or certification or licensure in a related service area.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory to the District required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic math including calculations using fractions percentages and/or ratios; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include special education and IEP documentation processes and procedures; behavior patterns of learning disabled children; assessment instruments and techniques; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; methods of instruction and training.
  • Skill to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use jobrelated equipment.
  • Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with datautilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize jobrelated equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to set high expectations for self and others; set and monitor progress toward goals; and utilize and offer effective feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes express or exchange ideas by the spoken word substantial movements (motions) with the hands wrists and/or fingers and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing crawling crouching feeling grasping handling hearing kneeling manual dexterity mental acuity reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
