Were now looking for aMidlands correspondent to generate news stories and features covering the Midlands across digital multimedia and print. The west and east Midlands regions are rich areas for stories from bankrupt councils to major breaking crime news and crooked old pubs.

Please note were open to applicants based in Birmingham or other West Midlands locations.

About the Role

  • Produce work (text multimedia etc) for all Guardian platforms
  • Work as part of the team of regional correspondents and wider national news team to break exclusive news stories features interviews and analysis focusing primarily on stories affecting the Midlands
  • Keep up to date with issues across the Midlands region and work with national editors to identify and develop the best possible stories.
  • Develop and maintain key contacts and through them develop exclusive and original material
  • Collaborate on projects by other correspondents specialists and departments
  • Develop and maintain useful contacts across politics culture racial justice health technology business the arts education social affairs and home affairs
  • Bring a diversity of perspective to your role

About You

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the Midlands
  • Strong track record of reporting and feature writing
  • Prior journalistic experience working in a fastmoving news environment preferably for a major newspaper or website
  • Range of contacts
  • A journalism qualification (desirable)
  • Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.
