Job Description

Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement Requirements

Additional Position Information:

University of Akron School of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Professor of Instruction. This is a fulltime 9month nontenure track position. The majority of the responsibilities will be:

Teaching in the undergraduate nursing program including didactic and clinical courses as well as teaching in the clinical environment and simulation and skills lab. The focus of the position will be MedicalSurgical Nursing or Community Health Nursing. The individual in this position is not responsible for completing research.

Evaluating student performance.

Assist in managing clinical placements including expanding clinical sites.

Serve on school college and universitywide committees as assigned.

Maintain a program of personal professional growth through activities such as engaging in scholarly activity university and community service and other pursuits commensurate with faculty rank and status.

Supporting University College and School of Nursing goals to assure compliance with accreditation and/or licensure.

Required Qualifications:

To be considered the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Masters degree in nursing from a nationally or regionally accredited institution with unrestricted registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio or current multistate license.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current medical surgical or community health clinical competency knowledge and skills.
  • Must have 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Current BLS certification
  • Proficiency in interpersonal communication and organizational skills (verbal written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students faculty professional staff administration clinical affiliates and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree preferred (PhD DNP).
  • Intensive Care experience.
  • Knowledge and skill of maneuvering computer software (Brightspace Microsoft Word Excel & PowerPoint and other related educational platforms).
  • Recent clinical nursing experience or teaching experience.
  • Skills in goal setting and team building.
  • Analytical and organizational skills to plan implement and evaluate course and program activities.
