Required: High School Diploma or GED; AND:

24 months office clerical or administrative experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Associates or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a library archives museum or other cultural heritage institution.

Working Conditions:

  • The position will involve some work in dusty and/or humid environments. Personal protective equipment will be provided.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with library users.
  • Knowledge of and experience performing general office procedures.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Strong attentiveness to detail in following procedures and guidelines.

This position is being hired through OUs PEAK Temporary Staffing Service.

The position is fulltime and has a term of 6 months beginning June 2 thru December 19.

The University of Oklahoma Libraries seeks to recruit a temporary Western History Collections Operations Assistant. The position will provide support for the fulfillment of the core services and daily operations of the University of Oklahoma Libraries Western History Collections a special research collection that manages and provides access to archives books and other special collections materials about the American West and Indigenous peoples of North America. The duration of the position will be from June 1 2025 through December 30 2025.

Job description

  • Provide support for opening and closing the Western History Collections reading room and storage areas as needed following established procedures for securing relevant physical spaces.
  • Provide inperson research services as needed fielding user inquiries registering users fulfilling requests for collection items and supporting the management of inroom circulation of collection materials.
  • Support the fulfillment of remote research services responding to email and phone inquiries as needed and delivering access to information and electronic documents to users via email.
  • Assist with managing security protocols for Western History Collections ensuring that users follow established protocols for handling archives and rare materials and monitoring security camera footage to ensure collections safety as needed.
  • Support the inventorying and management of collections materials by performing tasks including: packing books and archives collection materials into boxes printing and applying labels to collection containers entering data into a spreadsheet to record the extent and storage locations of boxes containing archival collections and preparing collection boxes for delivery.
