Job Overview
The British Council School in Madrid is currently seeking to appoint an outstanding caring and dedicated professional to the position of Primary Teacher for its Primary School.
We are a Bilingual 218 private coeducational school with approximately 2000 pupils on roll. Our Somosaguas campus has 3 separate facilities (Early Years Primary and Secondary) and children start with us at 2 years of age and study with us for 16 years until they graduate at the age of 18.
Role Purpose
- To teach students in Key Stage 1 and 2 (English National Curriculum) as a member of our team ensuring the highest standards of teaching & learning and pastoral care for our students supporting them to reach their academic potential and in their development as global citizens.
- To develop the subject area beyond the academic curriculum looking for ways to provide students with practical experiences in the subject.
- To act as form tutor to a group of students communicating with students parents and subject teachers to ensure high levels of pastoral care and academic support are provided.
- To support the school in maintaining its highest rating in all areas of the British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection.
Accountabilities
- Set high expectations to inspire motivate and challenge pupils while promoting progress and strong outcomes.
- Plan and teach wellstructured lessons with good subject and curriculum knowledge.
- Adapt teaching strategies to address the strengths and needs of all pupils and utilize assessments effectively.
- Manage behavior to ensure a positive and safe learning environment.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities including duties assigned by the line manager under the National Private Schools Collective Agreement.
Qualification
Essentials
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent teaching certification; Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Bachelors Degree in the subject applied for.
- Proficient spoken and written level in English language (minimum C2 Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or equivalent). Relevant language certifications would be required.
Work Experience
Essentials
- Recently completed teacher training programme in the specific phase applied to demonstrating relevant experience in a UK International or Bilingual School.
- Recent relevant professional development in Teaching and Learning.
Desirables
- A minimum of 2 years recent and relevant teaching experience within the last 5 years in the Primary phase in a UK International or Bilingual School.
- EFL/ESL teaching experience with children.
- Recent experience in delivery of English National Curriculum.
- KS1 and KS2 experience.

Overseas travel sometimes takes place and staff may be asked to accompany groups. Due to the nature of your role you may be required to work outside school hours during events and performances.
