SALARY RANGES: Parks Technician I: $18.86 $23.80 per hour

Parks Technician II: $22.85 $30.05 per hour

Parks Technician III: $25.55 $33.60 per hour

This is a full time nonexempt/hourly position

SCHEDULE/REMOTE/HYBRID: This position may involve working a variety of schedules including evenings and weekends and may be subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours including an emergency call in resulting from being called out for emergency situations creating dangerous conditions for the community. Work schedules can be changed with little or no notice and mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notification. A typical schedule is MondayFriday 6:30am 2:30 pm. Remote and/or hybrid schedules are not available. However flexible scheduling may be discussed upon hire and supervisor approval.

RELOCATION: This position is located in Greenwood Village Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.

REQUIREMENTS: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license and driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Villages insurance carrier. Park Technician I/II/III specific requirements as listed.

The City of Greenwood Village welcomes your application for the Parks Technician I/II/III Turf Crew position within our Parks Trails and Recreation Department. The purpose of this position is to perform semiskilled skilled and highly skilled labor involved in the maintenance and repair of parks landscape areas open spaces rightsofway and trails to assure these areas are safe available clean functional and aesthetically pleasing while following best management practices. The position also participates in snow and ice control activities; operates light to heavy construction equipment; and to direct a crew of seasonal workers in the performance of varied duties.

As a municipal organization Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations including weatherrelated emergencies may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employees specific job function but which will be within the physical capabilities training and skills of the employee.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Parks Technician I:This is the entrylevel class in the Parks Technician series. This class is distinguished from the Parks Technician II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Villages insurance carrier is required.

Parks Technician II:This is the full journeylevel class within the Parks Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Parks Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level or when filled from the outside have prior experience and meet all qualifications. Possession of an appropriate valid class B commercial drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Villages insurance carrier is required.

Parks Technician III:This is the advance journeylevel class within the Parks Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Parks Technician II by years of experience and additional certifications and licenses. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the II level or when filled from the outside have prior experience and meet all qualifications.

Essential Functions:

A. West Side Turf Landscaping and Equestrian Trail Crew and East Side Turf Landscaping and Ballfield Crew

• Mows aerates power rakes overseeds topdresses fertilizes line trims and edges turf areas in Village parks; sweeps trails according to a predetermined schedule; maintains shrubs planting beds and tree rings installs such landscaping items such as steel edging mulch plants shrubs and performs sod replacement.
• Performs technical skills related to chemical application in turf areas open space natural areas and in shrub and mulched beds; uses high pressured spray equipment and hand sprayers; maintains and calibrates all spraying equipment and chemical safety equipment. Also performs manual control as needed in turf and planting beds.
• Utilizes a sidewalk sweeper to remove excess materials from asphalt trails and concrete sidewalks; maintains repairs and installs crusher fine trails.
• Performs and oversees the installation and repair of fences and barriers.
• Coordinates and performs perennial and shrub planting for replacement and/or planting bed developments including digging holes either by hand or using equipment; oversees and performs the fertilization of trees and plants and the mulching placement around trees and shrubs; coordinates and performs the pruning of plants for appearance safety and health of the plants.
• Maintains necessary logs; maintains records of all maintenance performed on equipment; maintains SDS and pesticide label on all chemicals in inventory and ensures material is transported securely and stored according to standards and codes.
• Performs trash and recycling removal duties at all parks native areas and roadside areas throughout the Village.
• Coordinates with other crews to ensure no disruption to other parks activities or maintenance operations.
• Performs physically arduous work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
• Utilizes electronic devices to operate centrally controlled irrigation software for turf maintenance operations.
• Operates light to heavy equipment and various hand and power tools to perform assigned duties.
• Operates tractors with attachments.
• Responds to and performs afterhours calls for service and emergency repair; works various shifts as required to provide necessary coverage including responding to park concern requiring immediate attention outside of regular hours.
• Unique to West Side Turf Landscapes and Equestrian Trail Crew Mows line trims and edges roadsides open space and equestrian trails Village Wide.
• Unique to East Side Turf Landscapes and Ballfield Crew Ballfield maintenance including infield leveling and grooming. Synthetic Field management maintenance and scheduled cleaning.

B. Snow and Ice Control:

• Installs plow sander and other equipment on trucks; operates snowplows sanders and related snow removal equipment on an assigned shift.
• Operates a single axle pickup truck utility vehicles snow blowers or shovels to remove snow and ice from trails and sidewalks. May operate single or tandem axle plow truck to remove snow and ice from streets.
• Loads sand in trucks using frontend loader and uses frontend loader to remove snow.

C. Leadership Responsibilities:

• Leads oversees and participates in the work of the seasonal staff; reviews work to ensure proper work methods and techniques.
• Collaborates with assigned supervisor to determine priorities and objectives; reviews established work schedules for assigned crew.
• Identifies equipment and material needs; collaborates with other staff and contractors as appropriate.
• Maintains records on equipment and material used reviews information with assigned lead and supervisory staff.
• Verifies the work of seasonal staff for accuracy proper work methods techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specification.
• Ensures adherence to standard safety precautions and practices.
• Trains employees in proper work and safety methods.

D. Miscellaneous Duties:

• Communicates and interacts with members of the public; responds to customer service requests.
  
• Follows safety measures adhering to the Villages safety policies and procedures; maintains and utilizes provided personal protective equipment (PPE) when conducting activities exposing employee to risk.
  
• Assists in special projects including set up and take down for special events participating in annual clean up programs etc.
  
• Performs minor maintenance on equipment and/or vehicles.
  
• Cleans and maintains maintenance shop tools workspace equipment etc.
  
• Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; replenishes supplies when necessary according to Village purchasing policies.
  
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.

Position Requirements:

Parks Technician I

Knowledge of:

• Equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of parks and open spaces preferred.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices preferred.

Experience and Training Guidelines

• Experience: One year of experience in the maintenance and restoration of parks preferred.
• Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  

Certificates and Licenses:

• Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license and driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Villages insurance carrier.

Parks Technician II: In addition to the qualifications for Parks Technician I.

Knowledge of:

• General practices applied in turf maintenance and plant care.
• Operations and activities of a park maintenance program.
• Methods and techniques of repairing and maintaining parks and open spaces.
• Equipment tools and materials used in area of work assigned.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Ability to:

• Perform park maintenance and restoration work.
• Lead and oversee the work of seasonal staff.
• Interpret explain and enforce maintenance policies and procedures.
• Operate a variety of maintenance and repair equipment including various hand and power tools and light and heavyduty equipment in a safe and effective manner requiring hand/eye and hand/foot coordination.
• Perform a variety of physically demanding work for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions including extreme heat and / or cold.

• Experience: Previous experience in parks maintenance preferred.
• Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Possession of an appropriate valid class B commercial drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Villages insurance carrier.
• Valid flagger certification and forklift certification required within 180 days.

Parks Technician III: In addition to the qualifications for Parks Technician I and II:

Experience and Training Guidelines

• Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of parks. Previous experience in assigned area preferred.
• Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Required Certificates and Licenses:

• Possession of a Colorado Pesticide Applicators License in at least Turf and Ornamental categories.
• Annual demonstration of proficiency in independent setup and use of large tractors with turf maintenance attachments through equipment training qualification testing and field operation (outside candidates have one year to demonstrate).
• Possession of Sustainable Landscape Management Certification
• Possession of at least one of the following:
• National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Landscape Industry Certified Technician 1 of 5 tests)
• National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Landscape Industry Certified Lawn Care Technician with Internal Yearly Training Requirements
• National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Landscape Industry Certified Lawn Care Manager with Internal Yearly Training Requirements
• Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) Certified Grounds Technician
• Sports Field Manager Association (SFMA) Certified Sports Field Manager

Equipment Utilized:
Requires the capability to properly and safely operate a wide variety of equipment used in parks maintenance and restoration including large mowers and zero turn mowers; edgers; line trimmers; ATVs; UTVs; tractors with aerator spreader top dresser and over seeder attachments; backhoes; frontend loader; skid steer; forklift; ball drag; blowers; sprayers; air compressor; portable generators; pickup truck; single and double axel truck; snow blowers; and hand tools.

Contact with Others:
Primary internal contact is with own or other maintenance crews for purposes of completing assignments. Primary external contacts are with park users and equipment or material suppliers.

Supervisory Requirements:
Receives general supervision from the Park Supervisors. May exercise technical and functional supervision over seasonal or temporary workers. Parks Technician IIIs may exercise technical and functional supervision over Parks Technician Is and IIs.

Hazards:
Frequently exposed to safety hazards from equipment operated manual labor and work in high traffic areas. Job frequently requires physical effort requiring lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds. Ambient outdoor temperature extremes.
