Job Description

Join the Nurse Supervisor Team at Gillette! 1.0 FTE MF position working as day shift Supervisor of the Nursing Support team. Our Nursing Support team is inclusive of our House Supervisors our Staffing Office and our FTE & Casual RN & HUC/NA float team.

This position exists to coordinate the delivery of high quality safe efficient and effective care to hospitalized patients and their families. Incumbent in this position serves as a resource to staff members to maximize outcomes and meet the expectations and standards for care. Incumbent role models professional practice and assists others in interpretation and implementation of standards policies and procedures. Incumbent coordinates resources between departments including outpatient departments as well as external agencies and provides support to problem solve concerns complaints and/or process or system issues.

Specific duties focus on serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patients condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to participation in the hiring process performance management scheduling and supporting the overall development and functions of the Resource teams.

Compensation & Benefits Information

The annual salary range for this opportunity is $10000 to $149000 with a median salary of $12400. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity. Salary is just one component of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties

Patient Care Utilizes leadership principles in mobilizing the patient care team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Communicates real time patientrelated nursing data and information to enhance active and informed decision making by patients families nurse colleagues and other healthcare providers.
  • Monitors and holds staff and providers accountable for timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
  • Demonstrates and assists interdisciplinary team with adjustment in interactions the delivery of care and/or clinical techniques.
  • Uses systems thinking to influence care models around episodes of care using integration problem solving and coordination among interdisciplinary teams.
  • Accountable to integrate all contributions to patient care and serve as strategists and managers of the patients journey not only their responsibilities but also the interdisciplinary handoffs throughout the patient care process.

Family centered care Supervises and leads nursing care and health education reflecting specific patient family cultural and community needs.

  • Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
  • Seeks opportunity to evaluate effectiveness of health education as culturally and developmentally appropriate.

Autonomous Practice Exercises independent judgment that influences care and demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.

  • Supervises and delegates care based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity.
  • Generates shares and accepts new ideas and incorporates into own daily work.
  • Seeks information and generates optional solutions to perceived problems through interactive problem solving with individuals.
  • Collects analyzes and interprets data and presents information in contextual formats that clarifies significance of the data relative to patient care.
  • Assumes a leadership role with influencing and monitoring the standards of patient care including implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Integrates high ethical standards and core values into everyday work activity.
  • Utilizes leadership team building negotiation and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships.
  • Holds staff accountable for performance expectations and addresses performance issues in collaboration with department leadership.

Procedures and Policies Identifies interprets and monitors the implementation of organizational policies and procedures according to regulations professional and community standards.

  • Protects the confidentiality of personal health information.
  • Active participation in writing and revising policies and procedures.

Active Engagement Actively represents the department in committees task forces unit activities or other work groups and disseminates information and decisions to colleagues and peers.

  • Leads chairs or cochairs minimum of one engagement activity.
  • Ensures accountability through the use of dashboards and promote transparency through reporting of near misses and medical errors.
  • Lead or facilitate participation in department staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates meaningful contributions to the productivity of the professional environment of the department and the Nursing Collaborative Governance model.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the dynamic forces contributing to cultural diversity and the impact of those forces on the professional healthcare environment.
  • Collaborates with manager to ensure resource allocations development and implementation of strategies reflect the clinical and programmatic operation needs of the unit.
  • Incorporates the Engaged Professional Practice model is fully enculturated in their professional practice. Leads staff to use the model as their guide in decision making.
  • Attend a minimum of 75 of staff meetings.
  • Attend a minimum of 75 of committee meetings

Professional Development

  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth ease of access quality improvement and patient satisfaction.
  • Accountable for keeping pace with expanding evidence and knowledge by knowing how to access assess and apply the information and knowledge he/she needs in order to practice.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of multiple areas of the hospital and different procedures followed by various departments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing
  • Documentation of completion of a professional nursing program (RN program)
  • The Nursing Supervisor must at a minimum have a current Nursing Specialty Certification (or obtain within 12 months of start date in position) and a Bachelors degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR for through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette) candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
  • Must be interested in working with people with short term or long term disabilities that begin in childhood
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Physically able to work hours required and physically able to transport patients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field
  • Current PALS certification
  • A minimum of 3 years nursing experience
