40Summary:
To provide patient families visitors and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face to face encounters during designated hours. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish to interpret health care information to and from Spanishspeaking patients/patients families and Medical Center health care providers. Act as a Language liaison between the patient family and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter Services for nonSpanish Languages (via OPI/over the phone VRI/video remote interpreter and/or contract services). Education: oHigh School diploma or equivalent required. oAbility to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patients native language.o23 years of experience in a healthcare setting with current knowledge of medical terminology and interpretation / translation experience interpersonal skills flexibility and customer service communication and active listening to maintain confidentiality of records and to interact and communicate with people inperson and over the telephone often in stressful interpreters / translators must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Childrens Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language reading and writing tests. All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency qualify for employment applicants must meet minimally required Spanish proficiency levels. Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service prior to completion of the employment process. Applicants must test at the proficient level to to employment Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employees annual review. Testing is administered by a contracted testing service. Certification/Licensure: CHI/Certified Healthcare Interpreter Certification from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters/CCHI required. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy MC 175About Us:
