Job Summary:

Location: Nebraska Methodist College
Address: 720 N. 87th St. Omaha NE

Work Schedule: Mon Fri approximately 7:30am to 3:30pm some evenings (would know well in advance)

Work with motivated youth preparing for college in the Upward Bound program. Provide support to students and staff during the academic six week summer academy.

Wage: $14/hour

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Academic Year

  • Maintain complete confidentiality of student information and interactions.
  • Assist participants in math natural science foreign language English other high school subjects as necessary.
  • Work with motivated youth who are preparing for college.
  • Monitor academic progress of participants through completion of progress report forms.
  • Check participants BHS planners during each tutoring session for assignments and notes.
  • Attend orientation sessions and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Participate in student conferences and field trips.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Summer Counselor

  • AssistCoordinator with organizing and facilitating summer programming.
  • Attend Summer Program Training at the end of May (mandatory).
  • Attend all Summer sessions including Beginning of the Summer Retreat and End of Summer Trip.
  • Monitor students behavior and academic work during morning Academic Sessions.
  • Assist students with Projects during morning Academic sessions.
  • Ensure students are following the code of conduct and other policies.
  • Handle discipline issues that arise and notify Summer Coordinator or Director.
  • Actively participate in summer programming and provide a positive example for students.

Education

  • High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Completion of year of college required 2 years of college preferred.
  • Attends orientation sessions and staff meetings as necessary.


Experience

  • College students with prior coursework in education counseling or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working with people from a variety of educational cultural and socioeconomic background preferred.


License/Certifications

  • N/A

  • Ability to ensure students are following the code of conduct and other policies.
  • Ability to handle discipline issues that arise and notify Coordinator/Director.
  • Monitor academic progress of participants through completion of progress report forms.
