Job Description
General Summary:
The patient Transporter is responsible for the transportation of all patients to various appointments at several locations (Operating Room Physical Therapy Radiology etc. by using appropriate equipment and proper lifting and movement techniques to ensure safe transportation.
Essential Job Functions:
Transfers and lifts patients to and from wheelchairs stretchers beds cribs and other vehicles utilizing safe and appropriate body mechanics posture and lifting techniques
Handles any equipment that may accompany the patient such as drainage tubes central lines or respiratory equipment.
Escorts patients out of the hospital at discharge in collaboration with Volunteer Services.
Cleans maintains and redistributes patient transport vehicles (wheelchairs gurneys strollers etc.
Maintains appropriate communication with patients and their families and hospital staff to assure successful transportation of patients in accordance with Lurie Childrens Service Principles and Communication Standards of Conduct.
Practices universal precautions in the care of patients and handling of supplies/equipment as directed by hospital and department procedures and policies.
Successfully reports off to the other patient transporters at the end of shift or to the Administrative Coordinator at the end of the evening.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families coworkers and others.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
High school graduate or equivalent. Good oral and written communication skills; ability to followup on information with staff members.
Ability to organize workday and environment to get job done. Excellent public contact skills courteous tactful friendly ability to work well with others.
Ability to handle multiple requests and work in a stressful environment.
Basic Life Support certification required.

Pay Range
$18.00$27.00 HourlyAt Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.In addition to base salary Lurie Childrens offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees leadership incentivesfor select roles health and retirement benefits and wellbeing programs.
