About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. Were doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Staff Regulatory Scientist

The Staff Regulatory Scientist will require one with a professional demeanor and effective communications skills to be a liaison between Quality Engineering EPC construction management team Maintenance RWM shops and contractors. Assist the Manager with evolving the Quality Management system and processes to effectively educate all groups of the requirements within the Quality Manual and Engineering standards. To track and schedule all inspections both internal and external along with ensuring reports are completed. The role requires the individual to continue positively growing the quality culture within Redwood.

Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Regulatory Submissions: Prepare and submit Premanufacture Notices (PMNs) and exemption notices under TSCA Section 5 ensuring timely and compliant filings.
  • Chemical Classification: Lead chemical classification efforts under GHS CLP REACH and other global chemical regulatory frameworks across North America EU and Asia.
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Manage the development maintenance and updates of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazard communication documentation.
  • Chemical Property Database Management: Own and manage Redwoods internal chemical property database ensuring alignment with regulatory designations and enterprise ERP systems.
  • Global Chemical Registration: Support chemical registration efforts in international markets including import/export compliance documentation and substance identification.
  • Regulatory Consultation: Serve as a key internal advisor on the regulatory status and categorization of materialssupporting product development business development and commercial teams.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Track evolving chemical regulations and assess their potential impact on Redwoods operations and material strategies.
  • Crossfunctional Collaboration: Collaborate with EH&S R&D legal and commercial teams to ensure compliance with local and international regulations for new and existing substances.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with regulators thirdparty consultants and trade associations to represent Redwoods interests in regulatory processes and advocacy initiatives.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. or advanced degree in Biology Chemistry Environmental Science preferred Chemical Engineering or a related field is acceptable.
  • Experience: 57 years of direct experience in chemical regulatory affairs with demonstrated expertise in TSCA Section 5 PMN and SNUN preparation and global chemical classification.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of global hazard communication standards (e.g. SDS GHS CLP) and experience authoring SDSs.
  • Tools Proficiency: Experience with regulatory platforms and tools such as EPA CDX IUCLID ECHA REACHIT and ERP systems for chemical data integration.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in key markets (U.S. EU Canada China South Korea Japan).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical communication and project management skills.
  • Data Management: Experience managing chemical property databases and driving crossfunctional alignment on regulatory data systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular punctual attendance consistent with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk listen and speak clearly on telephone
  • Must be able to occasionally work long hours 1012 hours at a time) as needed to fulfill essential business needs
  • Must be able to wear respiratory protection on an infrequent basis when conducting evaluations of other manufacturing locations.
  • Must be able to infrequently stand for several 34 hours at time.

Working Conditions:

  • The work environment most of the time will be in the office with occasional travel to other sites which include production and laboratory areas.
  • Exposures encountered include but are not limited to loud noise extreme heat/cold and production materials.
  • Essential physical requirements include climbing standing stooping lifting and typing.
  • Some offsite travel is expected but infrequent 23 times a year).

The position is fulltime. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
