Job Description

The candidate in this role will be a key member of our clinical team assisting with comprehensive daytime and overnight evaluations of infants and children with disorders of respiratory control. During our comprehensive inpatient evaluations we determine the most effective way to optimize a childs ventilation and oxygenation needs with a variety of tracheostomy tube covers ventilators (LTV Trilogy Astral Vivo) and diaphragm pacing. The Autonomic Specialist collaborates with physicians medical professionals and families on a daily basis. The Autonomic Specialist will be responsible for communicating with patients their families and referring medical providers. The Autonomic Specialist will perform a variety of outpatient autonomic tests such as: HeadupTilt (HUT) testing Thermoregulatory Sweat Test Pupillometry Peripheral Skin Temperature measurements Heart Rate Deep Breathing Valsalva Maneuvers ventilatory challenges and QSWEAT testing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs independently comprehensive multichannel physiologic recording both awake and sleep with attention to detail on children: newborn through adolescent with a wide spectrum of disorders of respiratory control.
  • Performs all physiologic home/hospital monitoring including teaching scoring billing troubleshooting and maintenance of all recordings. Conducts parent/patient assessments schedules and coordinates clinical visits obtains necessary medical records and triages referrals.
  • Provides teaching to patients and/or parents prior to discharge following respiratory therapist scope of practice.
  • Performs the initial recognition intervention and treatment of critical events that may occur during evaluation of critically ill patients seen in the respiratory physiology laboratories.
  • Provides educational opportunities by serving as a mentor and leader in clinical skills to maintain professional competence.
  • Partners with management on performance improvement/quality assurance activities for the Department of Autonomic Medicine ensuring compliance with all hospital policies Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
  • Participates in developing and revising procedures policies protocols and standards of care.
  • Provides input to facilitate teambuilding concept among therapists nurses and physicians.
  • Collaborates with all members of the team in identifying and participating in research projects.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families coworkers and others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed by the State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner active and in good standing.
  • Minimum of a CRT upon start.
  • Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program in Respiratory Care.
  • 3 years pediatric or neonatal critical care experience and/or 5 years experience in Autonomic Medicine preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) through AHA. PALS certification within the first year of employment.
  • Must be capable of performing and working knowledge of all respiratory equipment and therapies provided in Center for Autonomic Medicine in Pediatrics.
  • Good teaching and decisionmaking skills with a high degree of motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Meticulous attention to detail organizational and assessment skills are imperative.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite applications.

Education

Bachelors Degree: Respiratory Therapy (Required)

Pay Range

$34.00$55.59 Hourly
