  • Pay $30.26 an hour

Summary

The Head Start Therapeutic Early Childhood Program prioritizes services for families and children who have been or are experiencing trauma that would benefit from comprehensive mental health and educational supportive services. The Therapeutic Education Leader in collaboration with Therapeutic Child and Family Resilience Specialist and the Therapeutic Classroom Leaders provides a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourage their social emotional physical and cognitive development. The Therapeutic Education Leader plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum for enrolled children living in lowincome atrisk environments. They will ensure the provision of quality comprehensive child development services including education health nutrition parent engagement and necessary family support services and referrals. The Therapeutic Education Leader will follow Head Start performance standards policies and procedures Childcare licensing requirements and City of Madison and NAEYC accreditation criteria (if applicable). They also build and maintain positive relationships with parents children coworkers consultants and community partners

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must possess a minimum of an Early Childhood Associates Degree Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education that includes 18 credits specifically related to ECE.
  • At least 5years experience in an early care education setting; experience teaching preschool children means completion of supervised student teaching or experience as a preschool teacher in a licensed program or employment as a publicschool preschool teacher
  • DPI certification in ECE or related DPI cert. or the ability to become DPI certified is preferred.
  • Experience building strong partnerships with lowincome high risk multicultural families required.
  • Knowledge of trauma effects and manifestations in children and adults and trauma sensitive approaches to working with children and adults
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing antibias early child education principles and pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to practice infant and early childhood mental health principles
  • Ability to design and implement curriculum that centers social emotional learning at the heart of all classroom activities routines learning experiences
  • Ability to demonstrate a systems/ecological lens when considering child family classroom site planning
  • Ability to work independently and possess strong problemsolving skills flexibility and patience
  • Preferred bilingual particularly Spanish and/or Hmong
  • Must have a valid Wisconsins Drivers License motor vehicle and adequate liability insurance as required by agency policy and state liability regulations
  • Must secure Registry certificate within 90 days of employment Level 14 or above

*Part Year employees have built in vacations which include summer break 2 weeks in winter and spring break (part year staff follow the school district calendar in which their program is located)
