About the role:
Deputy Head of Adult Learning
Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service is the local authoritys direct provider of adult education. Officially rated as Good with outstanding in personal development following our OFSTED inspection in July 2022 we are on a journey to Outstanding in all areas. We are going through an exciting phase of reshaping our service to achieve this. We would like to hear from forward thinking innovative experienced senior leaders with previous experience of working in Further Education and ideally within a local authority adult and community education (ACE) setting.
The post holder will be a senior member of the management team and take the lead for delivering a highquality programme of qualification based regulated learning across a range of subjects funded through the Adult Skills Fund.
In common with other members of the senior team the postholder will share corporate responsibility for decisions affecting the Service and will play an important part in the wider leadership of a complex organisation.
This is an ideal role for an experienced senior manager who is passionate about learners teaching learning and assessment and the difference that ACE makes to the lives of learners communities and the economy. You will have a background in further and/or adult community adult learning and passion for supporting learners furthest away from education and employment to gain the skills knowledge and confidence to fully engage.

Knowledge Skills and Experience
- 2 years experience in a senior management role in adult education
- 2 years experience managing quality in adult education
- Knowledge and experience of managing community and family learning
- Experience of Ofsted inspections as the Quality lead
- Experience of Matrix Award
- Experience of leading a team to achieve outstanding success rates and outcomes for learners.
- Knowledge and understanding of best practice within teaching learning and assessment including using learning technologies
- Ability to plan manage and monitor provision to meet targets and quality standards.
- Ability to innovate and implement own ideas.
- Able to meet deadlines and to work effectively under pressure.
- Good organisational planning and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and across a range of Council and other premises.
- Commitment to the Councils Equal Opportunities Policy and acceptance of their responsibility for its practical application.
- Awareness of the needs of adult learners from a variety of backgrounds.
- Understanding of how to promote inclusive learning and widening participation objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Teaching qualification PGCE/DTLLS/QTLS or equivalent
- IQA qualification
- Maths and English level 2
- ICT skills to Level 2 including spreadsheets
