JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the transport of neonates and pediatric patients from referral facilities by air and ground to Brenner Childrens Hospital following Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) guidelines. Performs advanced practice skills as needed and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide quality age/developmentally appropriate care.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an AMA approved two or four year program for respiratory care or satisfies the requirements in the admissions policies of the NBRC for registry examinations. Two years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and two years clinical experience with critical care patients (neonatal / pediatric preferred).
LICENSURE CERTIFICATION and/or REGISTRATION:
Maintains competency assessments required for specific roles. Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensed to practice as an RCP in the state of North Carolina current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) OR Pediatric ITLS. Preferred: AARC Certification as Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills interpersonal relationships and team building. 2. Meets patient care standards to optimize patient outcomes. 3. Promotes a safe and supportive environment during transport for all passengers in the transport vehicle i.e. patient crew and drivers. 4. Provides respiratory therapies following ageappropriate standards of care and departmental guidelines. Performs and maintains competency for pointofcare testing as assigned ensuring compliance with WFBH policies and with applicable state and federal regulations. 5. Completes documentation requirements for patient record and billing. Reports information to relief personnel to ensure continuity of care for the patient. 6. Provides educational enhancement to allied health practitioners. 7. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with AgeSpecific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. 8. Attends all required inservices staff meetings and team conferences.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong oral written and listening communication skills Ability to provide direct and indirect respiratory care Ability to perform multiple tasks under stress Contact with physician staff nursing medical and allied health staffs and hospital physicians. Contact with these individuals will be done to promote and project a positive courteous and a professional image of WFBMC Respiratory Care Services Demonstrates ongoing involvement in the respiratory care profession Ability to demonstrate and perform advanced practice skills including: Endotracheal Intubation Arterial Puncture arterial sampling from indwelling lines Umbilical Catheter Insertion Needle Chest Decompression Intraosseous Cannulation and External Jugular Cannulation Ability to demonstrate and perform competencies with administering NCRCB approved pharmacologic agents
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regular exposure to patient blood products from collecting/procuring specimens and wearing protective equipment in response to the blood products according to OSHA standards Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases (Airborne pathogens hepatitis TB etc. Exposure to caustic/toxic chemicals and Subject to handling emergency crises and stressful environments Moderate to high noise environment when transporting
