Job Description

Job Summary
The stage technician performs a variety of tasks associated with presenting live and broadcast productions. The technician will be primarily responsible for supporting the stage needs of events in Kingsbury Hall and other venues supported by UtahPresents. Assignments can include general stage hand work (wardrobe rail deck loadin/outs etc. electrician work audiovideo camera operations and other aspects of presenting live entertainment. A stage technician is not expected to be proficient in all departments but should have at least one area of experience. Hours for this position are variable dependent upon the needs of specific shows and projects. Assignments can vary project to project working as a specialist for one show and as a general stage hand for another. Technicians will be supervised and work alongside the fulltime staff of Kingsbury Hall. Events include the UtahPresents series rentals and college events spanning live music convocations lectures film dance theatre and mixed arts. Supported venues include proscenium theatres black box spaces concert halls and found spaces ranging from atriums to fields to museum spaces to Vimeo. Most venues are on the University of Utah campus but others may be located along the Wasatch Front. UtahPresents is a mission driven nonprofit campusbased arts presenter located at the University of Utah with a focus on bringing diverse artistic and cultural experiences to the campus and the region. As stewards of the iconic Kingsbury Hall UtahPresents provides a valuable gathering space for community events and campus partners. UtahPresents values individuals who can actively contribute to the diversity of viewpoints cultural background experiences and expertise of our staff. This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support onsite operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at our location if they are healthy and without COVID 19 symptoms.

Responsibilities
Two years directly related professional experience in one or more of the following areas: theatrical electrician live or broadcast audio projection event streaming rigging stagehand wardrobe event streaming film or related field. Demonstrated ability to work independently analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Excellent followthrough and the ability to work unsupervised Take direction from supervisor and performing the task the way they want it done Work in a variety of positions ranging from hanging softgoods to focusing lighting fixtures to wrapping sound cable to loading trucks. Work a theatre schedule knowing that not all events happen Monday thru Friday between nine am and five pm. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Be a willing and collaborative participant in the department and campus community Other duties as assigned by supervisor PHYSICAL ABILITIES : A steady energy level and a calm demeanor Must be able to withstand long hours of concentrated physical activity including reaching overhead and lifting 50 pounds Climb ladders and work at heights over 20 feet Move heavy equipment work with a variety of power tools and electronic systems. Minimum Qualifications
Two years of full time professional experience in one or all of the above listed skills technical theatrical skills or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required.
