Job Description

Classification Title:Clinical Ast/Aso/Full Professor and Director of Clinical EducationJob Description:

The Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida invites forwardthinking energetic creative physical therapists to apply for a Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor and Director of Clinical Education position. This is a 12month fulltime 1.0 FTE) nontenure track teaching related appointment. This position includes administrative assignment to the clinical education curriculum to ensure the quality and consistency of our student clinical experiences teaching in areas of UFDPT program need and the applicants area of expertise contributions to department and university committees participating in community service initiatives and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission vision and values of the program.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration: The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) primary duties are to plan coordinate facilitate administer and monitor the clinical education component of the DPT program in coordination with two assistant directors of clinical education and an administrative specialist.

  • Provide ongoing communication with clinical educators at each clinical education site.
  • Communicate and oversee communication with Clinical Education stakeholders including but not limited to Site/Center Coordinators of Clinical Education (SCCEs) Clinical Instructors (CIs) and students to monitor progress and assess student performance.
  • Place supervise and communicate with students while on clinical experiences.
  • Develop criteria and procedures for clinical site selection utilization and assessment.
  • Evaluate each clinical education site through student feedback onsite visits and ongoing communications and routinely share this information with academic and clinical faculties.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities of clinical education consistent with CAPTE federal/state regulations institutional policy and practice setting requirements.
  • Establish develop and maintain an adequate number of clinical education sites relative to quality quantity and diversity of learning experiences to meet the educational needs of students and the academic program the philosophy and outcomes of the program and evaluative criteria set by CAPTE.
  • Provide clinical education site development opportunities through ongoing evaluation and assessment of strengths and areas needing further development or action.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in health care and its effect on clinical education and apprise clinical educators and faculty of any changing trends.
  • Mentor other core and associated academic faculty about their role and responsibilities related to clinical education (eg clinical site visits determining readiness for the clinic).

Teaching: Teach in the area of content expertise and programmatic need. This includes classroom instruction as lead or coinstructor mentoring and advising DPT students and participating in the development/design and revision of the UFDPT curriculum.

Scholarly Work: Contribute to scholarly activity within the area of teaching and/or clinical expertise.

Service: Participate actively as a member of the university community on administrative committees search committees in department college and university governance activities student advising and community engagement/service learning activities.

Minimum Requirements:

A postprofessional doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) or postprofessional Doctoral degree (PhD EdD etc.. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Florida.

Preferred Qualifications:

We seek someone who demonstrates initiative and is a highly organized problem solver with the ability to work collaboratively with students faculty staff clinicians and others from a broad range of backgrounds. Experience supervising students in an academic and/or clinical environment and experience in clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination is essential.

The preferred applicant will have:

  • An awareness of and direct experience with current issues affecting DPT clinical education and experience in Clinical Education.
  • Experience supporting students with accommodation needs in accordance with relevant regulations as it relates to facilitating their placements with external clinical partners.
  • Prior experience placing students in clinical sites and of program development to train and support clinical faculty.
  • Prior experience in program development to train and support clinical faculty including CCIP trainer credentials.
  • The preferred candidate will be highly organized with strong communication skills and have demonstrated experience in conflict management and deescalation of uncomfortable or emotional situations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination experience.
