Device Management Engineerspecializing inSystem Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)and software packaging distribution and vulnerability management Some key responsibilities and best practices for this position are:
Security Update Compliance:
- Patch Deployment: The engineer deploys security updates to secure managed PCs. They balance security and enduser experience by using silent patching processes during the first seven days after an update release.
- Configuration Manager Version: Staying current with the latest Configuration Manager version ensures access to update management technologies (such as Express support) and quality improvements1.
Software Packaging and Distribution:
- Automated Deployment: The engineer automates software update deployment to reduce manual effort and minimize errors.
- Monthly Update Groups: Creating new software update groups each month prevents deployments from exceeding the limit of software updates per deployment.
- Static Update Groups: Storing updates from previous years in static software update groups eases management and reduces server and client load.
Vulnerability Management:
- Vulnerability Scanning: The engineer uses tools likeVulnerability Manager Plusto scan and discover vulnerabilities in local and remote endpoints and roaming devices.
- Prioritization: After assessing vulnerabilities they prioritize remediation efforts based on risk and impact2.
