    1. California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Counseling School Psychology or School Social Work
    or
    1. Valid license through the California Department of Consumer Affairs: Board of Behavioral Science or Board of Psychology; or American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology (ABPN) in any of the following areas:
      • Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP)
      • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
      • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
      • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
      • Licensed Psychologist

    Position Description


    The Mental Health Specialist provides collaborative and consultation services to Multitiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams conducts evaluations to determine need for Educational Related Mental Health Services and delivers individual group parent and/or family counseling as determined by an assessment and/or the students Individual Education Plan team. The Mental Health Specialist conducts inclass outofclass observations to gather data for assessment; and collaborates with teachers as well as aids if applicable to gain collateral information. The Mental Health Specialist consults with private sector clinical service providers. The Mental Health Specialist will assist MTSS and/or IEP teams in determining appropriate services supports and program components to address mental and/or behavioral health needs. The Mental Health Specialist is intended to support progress related to educational functioning and improve the students access to the educational program.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Under the direction of the Director of Student Supports & Special Education the Mental Health Specialist may be assigned to:

    • Consult and collaborate with general and special education personnel for students referred for or receiving mental health services.
    • Conduct Mental Health Services assessments per district protocol for students with an IEP write a summary report and attend to Individual Education Plans to make recommendations.
    • Consult and collaborate with Behavior Analysts and/or Behavioral Technicians in development of wraparound team supports for chronically absent students.
    • Develop and maintain mental/behavioral health programs in collaboration with the MTSS Intervention or Individual Education Plan team process.
    • Make recommendations to MTSS and/or IEP teams for mental health counseling services to include developing appropriate measurable goals providing progress report on student goals collaborating with MTSS and/or Individual Education Plan team members regarding student progress.
    • Attend Coordination of Services Team (COST) treatment team wrap around team or IEP team meetings as appropriate for specific student interventions or services.
    • Provide services for students who have IEPs and demonstrate socialemotional mental or behavioral health needs that impact their educational progress. These services include delivery of individual group or family counseling services.
    • Support District in supervision of monitoring student progress by school personnel visit school facilities attend school meetings and advise District regarding additional services as needs rise.
    • Provide information dissemination or professional development training to school staff regarding prevention and intervention activities and behavioral support systems.
    • Travel from site to site and/or perform necessary home visits for the purpose of assessing providing direct treatment program monitoring and/or collaboration.
    • Consult with or attend meetings with county agencies medical or private care practioners to inform student supports.
    • Uphold ethical and legal duties such as FERPA compliance confidentiality Education Code compliance and/or HIPAA compliance in accordance with applicable licensure.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to sit bend kneel perform grasping and handling motions and torso rotations on a continuous basis lift carry or move up to 50 lbs. ability to reach in all directions; adequate sight or corrected vision to read printed directions or instructions; hear and speak to communicate with coworkers students and the public; dexterity of the hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
