Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Senior Coordinator for Parent and Family Engagement will plan and execute family orientation content and large scale family engagement events (including but not limited to Parent & Family Weekend). Additionally they will coordinate and inform family communication support family volunteerism and build community partnerships. They will serve as a key collaborator with the Boise State University Foundation working with the Director of Parent Giving to develop the family engagement landscape.

This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

Department Overview:

Boise State New Student Programs helps acclimate students and their families to the college experience. The general functional areas of our department include creating and implementing orientation transition and ongoing engagement programs for new students and their families. Our work ensures our new first year transfer nontraditional and international students have a smooth and positive transition to the Boise State University community.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

30 of Time the Senior Coordinator for Parent and Family Engagement must:

Coordinate large scale events
Coordinate contribute to and/or collaborate with department planning of virtual and inperson programs involving families

  • Contribute to establishing learning outcomes and key performance indicators for attendees of events hosted by our office; work with the Director to align family initiatives with strategic institutional goals.
  • Events include but are not limited to: Family orientation MoveIn Convocation Parent & Family Weekend university recruitment events and Zoom events.
  • Gather analyze and implement feedback from event/program participants to improve future programs.

30 of Time the Senior Coordinator for Parent and Family Engagement must:

Coordinate familyfacing communications/content and family support.

  • Develop and maintain the functionality of CampusESP Boise States parent and family portal; manage Boise State stakeholders within this platform.
  • Inform content sent through various communication channels (e.g. newsletters websites social media and printed publications)
  • Triage and serve as a liaison for various university departments ensuring timely and accurate responses for families.
  • Manage appropriate records for family engagement maintaining detailed accounts of interactions ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
  • Maintain resources for campus partners to use when engaging with families.
  • Maintain and distribute current resources such as guides FAQs and training materials for use with families.
  • Participate in divisionlevel and campuswide committees meetings and training relevant to the position as requested by the Director.
  • Understand and communicate university and division policies that support student success and protect student rights to families as needed.
  • Represent Parent & Family Engagement at various programs where matriculated student families and supporters are present

30 of Time the Senior Coordinator for Parent and Family Engagement must:

Support family volunteerism and community partnerships.

  • Work with the Director of Parent Giving to build a menu of family participation; refer family to philanthropic opportunities as appropriate.
  • Support family volunteerism like but not limited to: SendOff parties family ambassador roles focus groups and regional socials.

10 of Time:

  • Participate in Departmental Divisional and University events initiatives and programs
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking and effective presentation delivery.
  • Demonstrate creative and efficient problemsolving skills; ability to think analytically and critically
  • Knowledge of event planning management assessment skills and ability to delegate tasks beyond reporting lines.
  • Excellent organizational and listening skills.
  • Ability to learn complexities of a large university to allow for best representation of the institution.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting with the ability to synthesize complex information into digestible welltimed content
  • Ability to motivate stakeholders to get involved around shared opportunities for family engagement.
  • Effectively manages sensitive conversations with stakeholders through diplomacy and strategic acumen.
MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from an accredited institution within or adjacent to higher education administration student affairs college student personnel or related field.
  • Direct professional experience working on initiatives that support the development of college students events that support a range in audience size 5500 and specialized populations and/or engagement opportunities for families of college students.
  • Working knowledge of best practices and trends in parent/family engagement and programming including familiarity with national organizations such as NASPA ACPA NODA and/or AHEPPP.
  • Experience participating in a Higher Ed professional association (example: NODA NASPA).
  • Exposure to planning developing and implementing strategic goals and program initiatives that require the effective management of resources budget and financial operations and collaboration with campus partners.
