Department Summary

The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence universal access engagement and achievement for the student scholar. UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development. UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement.
PathwayOregon is the University of Oregons promise of full tuition and fees and comprehensive support for lowerincome Oregonians. The program serves over 2600 undergraduates reflecting a diversity of backgrounds including firstgeneration lowincome rural and underrepresented students. PathwayOregon aims to help students meet their individual graduation goals while increasing lowerincome student retention and graduation rates overall. Participating students receive financial funding and are connected to a dedicated team of advisors who provide holistic wraparound support.

Position Summary

This position is for a fulltime twelvemonth PathwayOregon Advisor to provide comprehensive information advising support and referrals to participating students. The individual in this position contributes to the programs objectives by providing guidance that leads students to make informed and reasonable decisions in setting goals selecting courses studying effectively managing finances selecting majors exploring careers preparing for graduate school and engaging in campus life.

PathwayOregon advisors work to create meaningful partnerships with students empowering them to identify and actively pursue their goals while also helping to navigate and alleviate barriers by clarifying policies and hidden curriculum facilitating greater access to campus and community resources and fostering a space of belonging. Additionally PathwayOregon advisors develop plan and coordinate proactive outreach and programming to support the needs of participating students.

Advisors must exhibit professionalism and collegiality in a team environment and the ability to create a welcoming inclusive accessible and professional atmosphere in the office. This person must exhibit cultural humility and agility with the ability and commitment to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

The position reports to the PathwayOregon Director.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree
Two years of experience in advising counseling career counseling teaching or related fields

Professional Competencies

A broad working knowledge of student development principles.
Understanding of issues facing diverse groups (e.g. lowsocioeconomic first generation underrepresented students of color nontraditional and underprepared individuals).
Effective communication skills.
Highlevel organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively in a fastpaced detail oriented and time sensitive environment.
Ability to recognize situations that warrant initiative and moves forward without hesitation; resolving issues problems or situations.
Ability to anticipate next steps and execute independently.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar).
Ability to produce professional correspondence documents data reports and presentations.
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
Knowledge of university policies procedures systems and structures.

Preferred Qualifications

A masters degree or equivalent combination of skills experience and education.
Three years of experience providing academic advising personal counseling or teaching records in higher education settings.
Experience working on issues of diversity equity and inclusion to effect meaningful change and promote student success.
