Job Description

Lower School Librarian

The NightingaleBamford School seeks an experienced dynamic Lower School Librarian for theschool year.

The ideal candidate will support our schools mission goals and vision; value community; bring a spirit of enthusiasm and energy and be willing to take thoughtful initiative in a collaborative setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Plan and teach engaging library classes for K4 students
  • Evaluate and update Lower School Library scope and sequence as needed in keeping with the K12 curriculum
  • Oversee the maintenance of the schools K4 library collection including circulation collection development inventory and evaluation
  • Provide readers advisory and reference assistance to Lower School students families and Professional Community members
  • Create a joyful space that celebrates learning reading authentic inquiry and collaboration
  • Supervise library space during recess student visits and after school
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support student learning and curriculum in research projects and reading programs integrating skills that foster information literacy and digital citizenship
  • Be a proactive and collaborative member of the Library Department to develop and carry out crossdivisional library and curriculum and events such as library orientations book clubs book fairs and author visits
  • Develop and maintain a diverse collection of print ebook and audiobooks resources
  • Collaborate with Lower School Leadership Team around community programming
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Library Science (MLS)
  • At least 3 years experience working with Lower School students
  • Flexibility and curiosity as well as a love of working with children and an extensive knowledge of childrens literature
  • An understanding of the scope and the sequence of library and information literacy curriculum particularly for lower school readers and learners
  • Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to proactively collaborate with students families and the Professional Community
  • Ability to empower students to be critical thinkers enthusiastic readers and skillful researchers
  • Technology and Software Knowledge: G Suite for Education Follett Destiny Library Manager LibGuides and various library databases and digital content
