Job Description

TITLE:Social Emotional Behavioral Health Interventionist

POSTION TYPE:TCHR

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Valid Iowa teaching license: K6 Classroom Teacher
  2. Experience working in schools or educational settings preferably with atrisk or highneed student populations.

Desired:

  1. Certification or licensure in school counseling or behavior analysis.
  2. Experience with deescalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
  3. Experience with data literacy and ability to analyze and report data

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) traumainformed practices restorative practices and socialemotional learning frameworks.
  2. Strong communication collaboration and problemsolving skills.
  3. Knowledge of MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) models.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Social Emotional Behavioral Health Interventionist is responsible for supporting students by promoting the social emotional and behavioral development of students. The Social Emotional Behavioral Health Interventionist serves students in Title I Targeted and Schoolwide programs to support and provide targeted interventions for at risk students within the schools MTSS. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate and provide strategic supplemental social emotional and behavioral health instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
  2. Identify students with social emotional and behavioral challenges in need of supplemental interventions. Provide direct coaching support and intervention to students to help them build selfregulation coping strategies and positive social skills.
  3. Collaborate with classroom teachers PLCs administration and families to identify best practices for individual and small groups of students.
  4. Plan and/or teach interventions based on the learning needs of students using high quality materials based in research.
  5. Use data to provide instruction to students and support access to core instruction.
  6. Monitor student progress through data collection and use data to refine and improve intervention strategies.
  7. Ensure intervention sequence aligns with classroom instruction school social emotional learning focus and building MTSS.
  8. Document interventions and record monitoring data in Panorama Student Success. Use graphs and progress monitoring data to make instructional decisions.
  9. Participate in professional learning communities and ongoing professional development opportunities for Interventionists.
  10. Facilitate training and professional development sessions for staff on topics related to socialemotional learning behavioral health traumainformed practices and positive behavior interventions.
  11. Engage and collaborate with families to support the social and emotional growth of students offering resources and strategies that can be implemented at home.
  12. Reports holistic and aggregated data on student progress in intervention during building quarterly reviews.
  13. Work closely with teachers and school staff to create a positive school climate integrating strategies for emotional and behavioral support into classroom practices.
  14. Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the Iowa Teaching Standards.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

FLSA STATUS:Exempt

DAYS:195 or 199 day contract HOURS:7.75 hours

This position is supported through building Title I funds and is subject to availability of these funds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Standing walking sitting bending/stooping reaching/pushing/pulling

WORKING CONDITIONS:Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal
