Job Description

Job Description:

Individual will be responsible for teaching the Macomb Intermediate School District designed program which is offered for students entering grades 6 7 or 8 who believe mathematics is not their strength. The goal is to communicate brain research to math students and teach them through an approach that is open creative and visual. The term growth mindset comes from the work of Carol Dweck. Her studies show that everyone holds ideas about their own potential. Students with a fixed mindset are those who are more likely to give up easily whereas students with a growth mindset are those who keep on going even when work is hard and who are persistent.

Position Department:Summer School

Report to:Billie Sczepaniak Director of Curriculum and Educational Services

Teacher Hours:

  • 8:00am11:20am (including breakfast and lunch supervision)
  • 40 minutes of daily paid prep time
  • Total hours per day: 4

Teacher Days:

  • Student Program Dates: June
  • MISD InPerson Training (compensation provided by MISD): June 11 8:30am3:00pm
  • PreProgram setup: June 12; 9:00am12:00pm 3 hours)

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Exemplary experience in teaching middle school mathematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and engage students.
  • Enthusiastic energetic and positive professional with a growth mindset.
  • Preferred participation in Number Talks training at the Macomb ISD (not required).
  • Must be available during the time requirements of the position.
  • Certification in CPR and first aidrequired

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective instructional methods based on a daily schedule outlined in training.
  • Administer pre and post assessments.
  • Submit attendance records.
  • Plan appropriate instruction to support diverse student needs.
  • Supervise students during breakfast and lunch.

Rate of Pay Note: $25/hour (per REA Contract) $15/hourBonus to Address Learning Loss $40/hour
